I want to check out some High Definition demos with this pc and unlike my nVidia 6800GT this card has Fast Write on it. The microsoft site say I need to enable it which I found and tried to do in the card settings. Unfortunately after restarting the card reverted back to rewrite disabled? What else can I do in setting to enable it?

I am running a MSI KT3 Ultra 2 board with an Athlon XP2600 cpu and 1 GB ram....the card runs in a 4x AGP slot if that makes a difference ?

Erm - The Nvidia 6800 GT has fast write on it - just checked, in the driver it's under the AGP Settings.

Did you enable fastwrites in BIOS?

If it reverted back, maybe check for a BIOS update for the mainboard.

I wouldn't enable fast writes in the bios. It's notorious for causing system problems. Fast writes is one of those "it seemed like a good idea, but it's in fact crap" things. Most IT sites advise against using it.

It was designed for improving throughput for games not video playback.

    Just my 50p's worth. :)

Funnily enough since I enabled fast write and also dloaded the new ati drivers I do have a little problem ;)

I dont know if its related or not but whenever I use my mouse pointer over certain areas, like somewhere where I need to click on it so I can start typing, I get a small quarter inch square box covering the normal vertical indicator line. The box is made up of a group of horizontal lines. When this box appears I can still just about see the pointer because the lines are close together. I am assuming whatever I have done has enabled a graphic box that is used for something no doubt but no use to me at all.

Has anyone any ideas how to make this box disappear??
