i need to know what i should set my multimeter to, thus enabling me to see what voltage is being taken to the speaker terminals to enable me to set the gain on my amp correctly to my speakers/head unit pre out supply voltage.
I have the neccesary voltages for the channels just cant seem to get voltmeter to read? i was told to connect the multimeter across the speaker terminals but it just doesnt seem to read (yes speaker cable is connected!!lol)

    urgent reply appreciated

Without the Make & model number it will be hard to guess. Just look up spec on the net. My Old Sony was 2v but my new JVC KD-AVX1 is 5v.
I have never heard of testing it that way

To test voltage you need to measure across the contacts where the wires go into the speaker. You also need the multimeter leads connected, black to common and red to V/ohms. Then the dial or button to mV or anyone that shows ac voltage.
