How do i connect PS3/360 to speakers?

I am considering getting this http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/-/715/92...-Speaker-System/Product.html?searchtype=genre
It has 3x 3.5mm jack, so how can i connect a PS3 using HDMI and an Xbox 360 using Component to this?

Regards Conor.

Cant speak for the PS3 as I haven't got one but I expect the same will apply as per the 360. You'd need a 2 x phone to 3.5mm adapter so you can plug the Red & White audio leads out of the 360 into it. Forget the component leads, that is for Video only, you will not get sound from these.

Something like this:

Yes, use the Red & White from the Xbox cable with that adapter and you should be fine. As for the PS3, you could use the HDMI to your TV but that URL you posted shows optical leads also known as Toslink, does the 5.1 system you want have a Toslink input?

Does the PS3 not come with some sort of audio phono leads like the Xbox?

That is completely unsuitable for a 360 or PS3. It has 3 3.5mm jacks as inputs. One is for the stereo front, one is for stereo rear and the other is for centre and subwoofer. (The speakers are specifically designed for PCs)

The Xbox360 and PS3 have stereo out only (and the adapter mentioned would give you that) so only 2 of the 6 speakers you bought would work!

You need something with optical in or HDMI in (that supports audio of HDMI) if you want surround sound from your console.

Hope that helps.

Ok, so the Philips will only play through 2 speakers per console. Are there any 2.1 surround sound speakers with optical digital inputs? Max of about £90

If you only want 2.1 then you can use the red and white connectors that come with your consoles.

They range from very cheap... - but have to switch cables when switching consoles

(might not be as good as your TV speakers at that price!)

...to as much as you like.

I would give some more thought to what you are actually after. A better option would be to add the speakers to your TV if you can so that that make the consoles AND your normal TV viewing sound better.

Well that's the thng, these aren't for a tv, they are for a projector in a small(ish) room. So decent 2.1 would be sufficient for the sound.
