How do calibration disks work?

Hi.

I am looking at buying a calibration disk for my 428XD. Is it a case that after using the disk 'one' setting applies to all sources such as Freeview, DVD, Blue Ray etc or do you calibrate different settings per source?

I just wondered as the 428XD has different 'built in' picture settings for different sources.

Thanks.

PS Is the DVE disk the best one to get?

I would calibrate each source.
In my experience the video circuitry in each source can be quite different in the output it provides. You may find that in your case there might not be that much difference though.
I currently have diferent settings for Sky HD and DVD and the difference in PQ is quite noticeable if left on the wrong setting.
