How can I ....

    I have a DVD ROM drive on my laptop

    is it possible to take a still from a DVD

    I've tried doing a screen dump but the dvd window appears black

    Won't the software that you view your DVD through allow you to do it? The software I have (and i can't for the life of me remember what it is) has a button to do a screen grab.

    only software i have is winDVD which came with laptop

    Yup, winDVD came with my laptop and didn't have that feature AFAIK so i uninstalled it, but the one i'm using now does and it was highly recommended by people in the know as being a much better program......if only i could remember what the hell it's called :mad:

    windvd claims it can capture a still but it doesn't work

    done it with a trial version of power dvd windvd is a bit pants

    I've never liked WinDVD.

    Power DVD.

    Stop the film. Choose the options in the sub menus to save as a bitmap, in certain dir.

    Then whilst playing press C.

    One bitmap file is about 1.2MB. Try holding the C button down for 30 seconds! Say bye-bye to the space left on the HD.
