I suspect that the news about the PS3's 1080p support is all hype.

Sure, the PS3 will output DVDs encoded in 1080p at 1080p resolution, but the games may well be limited to 720p/1080i. Besides, I can play PC games at 1600 x 1200 resolution but that doesn't mean they have 1600 x 1200 pixels of resolvable detail.

1080p is standard for all PS3 games. Does this affect PAL users?

4.5k for a TV? can you justify that? I could have 3 sammy sp50's side by side for that kind of money.

HD, are you sure the Sharp does 1080p ? I thought it could only do 1080i ? Could be wrong though.

To be honest, the 1080p signal is basically future proofing. Although there isn't a TV that can display that resolution, give it a few years and I'm sure they will be everywhere.

Well as far as i know it may require a firmware upgrade to the media box, an email to sharp will sort it out (at the time of development there was naff all 1080p material but the screen is 1920x1080 native and its LCD which is progressive in nature so i cant see it not working. try avsforums for more details there are only a handful of people on here who have seen the 45" and even less who own one!

Lets be clear here - 1080P will not be mandatory, it will be a single option on the front end. You will also be able to select 1080i, 720P, etc. I reckong the games will look amazing whichever High Def option you choose.

I also suspect that some games may run at lower frames per second when 1080 is selected. I would rather have silky smooth 720P @ 60HZ than 1080P @ 30HZ !

Your right sony arent gonna shoot themselves in the foot by only supporting the few people in the countryy with 1080p screens. I guarantee there will be standard definition display (in 4:3) for all games with the option to switch to whatever resolution the game programmers can do ( i reckon the minimum is 720p as MS have already confirmed all xb360 games will be at least 720p)

I'd put off buying a new plasma.

Before the end of the year, all of the major manufacturers will be launching new models that properly support 1080p.

it's that same old arguement, wait wait wait.

You are right, decision made. Big plasma supporting 1080p - end of the year. 32" for the bedroom, with hdmi, at least 1080i, LCD (size consideration) = ?
