Could somebode please tell me how the TV Guide is suppose to work
on these new machines if they only have an analogue tuner?
    (Panasonic DMR-EH50/ES10)
Are we talking just a 5 channel program guide or is it going to be much cleverer?

    Thanks azzo

It remains to be seen whether the UK models will have any EPG - I doubt it personally - but if they do opt for one odds are it will be the awful Guideplus. This uses info transmitted on analogue broadcasts and provides info for all major channels inc Sky.

fingers crossed. Many of us have been waiting for a HD recorder which can be programmed via an EPG for a long time.

Guideplus isn't what you've been waiting for :) I would suggest you look at PVR equivalents such as Pace Twin (for Freeview) or Sky+. A Cable variant of Sky+ is about to be launched by Telewest as well.

Yep, I've been waiting for Telewest PVR for a long time.
How much it will cost and how well it will perform remains to be seen. Still it looks like pannasonic have addressed my main gripe with them - The painfully slow startup and shutdown time.

In regard to GuidePlus, I have found it to be generally very reliable. Indeed, although I have concerns about the reliability of Philips DVD recorders, GuidePlus is one of the reasons I stick with their machines.

Yes - it will be interesting to see that - including how they work with regard to HDD spinup (presumably by using a large buffer).
