How about a sticky on PAL prog players?

Just an idea, would it be possible for somebody/bodies in the know to come up with a post summarising the various PAL progressive players out there or expected in the next couple of months?

Something like a table (I'm not sure if these forums support HTML tables) or a FAQ just listing....

- Player Make Model
- Expected release date if not out yet
- Available in this country or import only
- Approximate street price
- PAL PS out of box or mod/firmware required
- MR hack available?
- Media supported
- Recordable (Only the Philips 890?)
- Chroma bug sufferer
- Any outstanding issues

...I'm sure there are other bits of info but probably many more than that and it becomes too large.

I'm willing to help out any way I can, be it collatting, formatting or whatever. I am, however, a bit short on the information front which is why I come here every day. :)

I just thought this might prove a useful quick reference guide. Any thoughts?

Great idea, go for it :)
The only help I can give you is that Toshiba have refused to release a pal upgrade for its current progressive scan player's

hi timh,

i sent a e-mail to tosh about pal progressive for my SD900E they also said they will not upgrade it,but i'm not gonna let this one go!

toshiba boast about their dynamic firmware upgrade, well to me this is deceiving the public so i am going to get in contact with trading standards & watchdog and see what there have to say.

let's put the pressure on,i'm sure we can do this ;)

Geat idea, lets hope something comes of it.

I noticed on another thread that it looks like Harman Kardon could be releasing a firmware upgrade for their 25 model, if they can do it why can't Toshiba.

Maybe if you contacted Toshiba and told them about you contacting trading standards and watchdog, it may push them into doing something about it, afterall they do not want bad press.

Good idea not to send the sausage :D

Interesting to see how Toshiba Customer Care will compare with our usual suspects...
Good luck with it anyway.

I received a reply from Tosh last month. and here it is.

Thank you for your recent enquiry. Please find the information that you
requested as follows:

In reply to the E-mail sent, Unfortunately Toshiba doesn't have any sort of
upgrade for this Pal progressive scan for any of it's units. Toshiba are
aware of the new Pal progressive scan mode and when Toshiba decide to bring
out a new range of DVD units, all of them will be Pal progressive scan
compatible.

I emailed them again tonight, slagging of their after sales service.

I had another reply from Toshiba Today, at least this time they did not say the upgrade would not be available.

Dear Mr Herring,

Thank you for your recent enquiry. Please find the information that you
requested as follows:

PAL Progressive is a new innovation in the market and no standard has been
agreed (or has not been until very recently). Once the standard is agreed
then the problem needs to be looked into and then a change assessed,
designed and implemented before an upgrade can be issued.

As far as we know, there is no upgrade due to be issued yet.
