Just been watching House of Flying Daggers and my R3 review copy has shown some terrible compression problems throughout the movie; think a ripped DVD with 30-40% compression and you wouldn't be far off

Before I write this one up, can someone please check their copy and let me know if this issue is consistent? Surely the poorest DVD for picture that I've seen for a loooong time, which is a shame as the soundtrack is a corker, and the movie superb:) (though I haven't finished watching it yet).

The most obvious issues are during the opening credits.

    Thanks
    Matt

It is sad to see a major film like this get such a poor dvd release though.

Well had a nother look at one scene - the drum scene and yep theres quite a few artifacts and some blurring problems - its not really bad like say the HK dvd of Momento mori etc but still annoying. Not sure why i didnt notice the picture before? was too busy enjoying the lovely Zhang Ziyi to notice :D
Still it was cheap and it will be awhile before the R2/R1 dvds are out.

yes it is bad! edko are a proper company and there release of "hero" was almost HDTV quality but daggers does look like a bad telecine! they did the same with hero(released an inferior copy to satisfy the masses) then released the 2 disc version which improved on everything hopefully they do this with daggers too as i cant bring myself to watch it knowing there might be a decent quality version coming along soon!
