Thought the final season was terrible when I watched it, as you mention Cas it took at least 3-4 episodes to get going and then meandered with some fairly uninteresting story lines.

For me they should have ended it at season 5

yeah, just didnt do it for me at all, ending at season 5 would have been preferable too for me.

An interesting review thank you. Just finished watching this and spent much of the running time not understanding what was going on - too many conversations about characters I could barely remember the names of, then it just ended suddenly / ridiculously (we hadn't twigged there were so few episodes).
From a peak in previous seasons where events truly shocked and you felt the loss of certain characters I thought this was pretty awful and watched it more for reasons of completing the show rather than any particular enjoyment.
Perhaps we have all become rather jaded as politics on both sides of the Atlantic have continued to move in more shocking and unbelievable directions than any drama could convincingly compete with?

Sorry, last season was sucking lemon after lemon.
Without Kevin in the mix it was always going to be a uphill task.
Kevin was Mr.House Of Cards, it will please the femanazis but that's it.
Shame tho, it was a great series until then and goes out on a limp.
      It deserved a better ending.
      Peace
      :D

Thanks for the review - an unfulfilling end to what was a great series. You're right, without Frank, Claire Underwood had no yang for his ying !

I really disliked the feminist angle of the story because it felt like a "cheap cash in" on the me-too movement. It was too short of a season that ended too abruptly, which maybe wasn't a bad thing considering how it was going.

What a shame for a brilliant series up to this point.

Terrible season. It was painfully dull without Frank.

Although those who've followed it all the way through would have enjoyed Doug having a bit more screen time, the actual ending was limp and very unsatisfying - and not in the way that some series' end without performing fan service. This was just...awful. Rushed and disappointing.

A few good points in the season, but, knowing it was ending, it made the character development seem a bit pointless. I'm glad it has finished, but it did look good in 4k.

It wasn't good and harked back to things I could barely remember, will never watch it again. Without Frank it completely lost its bite.

Credit where credit's due - it was great to see Clare (almost) come out of Frank's shadow, and kudos to Robin Wright for trying, it's just a pity the story and script didn't do her any favours. I lost count of the number of sharks it jumped (especially the final scene in the Oval Office - seriously WTF!). I'm trying to convince myself that the show ended with Season 5.:(

It had some kick-ass moments like showing her enemy her new all-female cabinet but generally I felt it was all a bit weird as a swansong.

The whole thing about pretending to be upset/depressed to trigger the coup. Also the sheer amount of people in the public eye that were bumped off would have looked a tad suspicious and stretched the realism a tad far for me.

Also wtf at the ending and as if you could dismiss security despite the situation.

      Thanks for the review, Cas.
All things being equal, you shouldn't need buy this as a loyal Netflix UHD customer.
It certainly lacked without the Commons walker. Clare was always bitter at heart and there's only so far you can go with such a character born of spite and little else. Frank was rather more complex and the eloquence and level of wordplay his character afforded kept things lively, amongst his base, most brutal moments.
If Spacey had been cast, I would've watched still. There's plenty of known actors and, as it turns out, actresses that aren't beyond reproach that get work and watched.
