Hi can anyone advise me on why my 5 year old hot point fridge has started freezing everything in it?

Iv had a engineer out twice and he can't fix it. Says I need a tech guy out or something.

Can I get a refund or replacement fridge? Iv got a extended running warranty so if they come out for the 3rd time can I demand a new one?

Thanks.

I think it is reasonable to expect a replacement if they cannot fix it on the 3rd attempt.

Fridge freezers are very simple. A single compressor and usually just a single coolant loop. It sounds like the thermostat is faulty, but these are often linked to an electronic panel that controls the frost free fans and defrost heaters.

I would imagine his fault manual tells him to replace the thermostat and main board, but if this does not fix it, it could be faulty wiring, causing the compressor to run the all the time.

We had (Still have) an issue with our Bosch. The frost free heater does not work, so the freezer element gets frozen solid, so the freezer gets progressively warmer. half an hour with a hair drier and some hot water clears the frost build up for another few months. I only mention it because this causes the compressor to run for longer and the fridge gets colder. Might be worth getting the engineer to look for a similar fault.

Hi thanks for the reply :) well the compressor is not running all the time he checked that. Also the control panel got replaced and he said that's working fine. It's strange coz he did a thermo check and it's 4°C at top but 1°C at bottom. Saying this it's freezing my 4 pint milk cartons on the first shelf.

Iv got the fridge turned right down but to no avail.

The drain at the back is ice free also so it's draining ok. He said don't put your food at the back touching the rear wall. We don't and the shelves don't allow it anyway.

We had no problems until this and it's getting stupid as most things are getting destroyed by ice :(

Err is this your problem right there, down or the lower numbers usually means colder for a fridge.

Daft but just in case are you sure you have not in fact set your fridge to go as cold as possible?

It's also quite normal for a fridge to be colder at the bottom than the top, cold air sinks, warm rises etc.

Acutally, fridges and freezers tend to be coldest at the top. Thats why the salad drawer is at the bottom and the freezer compartment at the top. Its to do with the layout of the cooling pipes.

No lol on my fridge it's a scale from 1-5 iv got it on 1 lowest. On 5 it says under that it's the coldest setting :) also confirmed by engineer.

All my salad stuff is getting destroyed the wife is going mental :p

Just felt fobbed off as he said there was nothing he could do and would need what sounded to be a specialist lol.

It's took months but, had an engineer out and he said as soon as he seen the fridge the insulation was shot, which was causing the freezing in the fridge! Why didn't they see that before!

Hope you do not have Sears they just informed me that the company they sent out told them something that was not covered under the warrant so they would not replace my fridge and they came out three times and I have the same problem as yours

If still under warranty and he attempted to repair it 3 times YES you can now demand they either replace the whole fridge or they pay you an approximate amount of cash refund so you can purchase a new fridge.

They put it’s the thread on the door so they say that is not under warranty. Going to cancel that home warranty and find one that works

Depends where the person is though. The member profile says Saint Louis so US. Not sure what the laws say there.....

Don't you just hate it when you get duped into reading a 9-year-old thread?
