I have just been asking about the lyrics of American Pie so whilst I’m at it does anybody know what they was on about in Hotel California.
Such as ‘You can check out any time but you can never leave.’

It's about drug addiction according to Mr. Hall, my English teacher.

Quite what would happen now to a teacher who played the Eagles to a classroom of 12 year olds, and then went on to explore the issues of drug addiction with us, I'm not sure.

We also covered Rocket Man, but I don't remember what that was about.

    Cheers, Carl.

    Suicide.

That's always been my understanding of it.

Can't remember for the life of me what 'we haven't had that spirit here since 1969' refers to.

Certainly is. I was always under teh impression it was a song about drugs. Saw them live at Earls court a couple of years ago (Eagles that is, not drugs :p). Excellent!

Yes, definitely a good one, I think my favourite though is One Of These Nights and the intro is an absolute classic.

    Probably :p

Agree with you on One of these nights. Picking up selected works was one of my better decisions a year or so ago. One day I'll get around to sorting out their entire catalogue. You wouldn't think I'm 25!

I remember being on a bar-crawl in Bahrain about 10 years ago... The first one we went in had a Filipino band playing Hotel California, and by coincidence the second bar had another band playing the same track... It became our mission to request it in every bar we went to... and seeing as there were quite a few of us, all bands obliged... ! Must habe heard the song a dozen times that night, the highlights being a heavy metal version, and a full-on reggae version from an African band....

Has anyone else heard Don Henley's version of the
song on his "Live Inside Job" dvd? I think you can describe
it as "It's my song so I can do what the hell I want with it and
I'll throw in a bit of ska as well!" Brilliant!:D
    Great concert too!
    Shame about the hair though!:nono:

That's my demo DVD to show just how much better DD can be than DTS. I love that version of the song, not just listening to it bit also watching the three trombone players when they're not playing.

I totally agree with you on the sound - DD is by far the better
    version on this dvd.
