Is the Denon in a enclosed cabinet? Do you close the door?

Have you left a gap above the DVD player? (at least 3")

3800s do run hot anyway, but cooking it above your amp can't help. Feel the top of your receiver after 45 mins and you'll be surprised at how hot it gets..especially if you are playing the movie at any volume.

Perhaps you could switch shelves to put the DVD beneath the 3802?

Move the DVD player away from the AV amp, put the DVD player onto a seperate shelf.

Some of the 3800's do run hot to start with, but from other reports, do tend to cool down once they have been run in for a while.

Also check out http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&postid=1869477&highlight=3800+hot#post1869477 for more info on 3800's runnning hot and problems with the US players

The first three digits of the serial number will tell you the build date of the unit - the first digit is the year (i.e. 2 =2002) and the next two are the month (i.e. 11 = Nov) - so 212XXXXX would mean a Dec 02 manufactured player. As I remember, some of the older units did run hot and also had the potential to have problems with skipping and freezing on DVD's - newer builds seem much better in this respect

Check out my site for other 3800 info inc. known issues...www.geocities.com/denon3800

P.S. Try not to use CAPS in your post as this makes it difficult to read and is often interperated at shouting...just a tip...:)

difarant weighs off speling is apperantally Ok BUT USE OF UPPER CASE IS NOT RECOMMENDED. :p

However, as it seems that you can spell, just ease off the shift key and you'll do just dandy. :D
