Watched the aforementioned at the weekend on DVD, was slightly disappointed. Great idea but would have expected Tarantino to do better. Any other views???

hi woodywizz where did you get the dvd from?
and do you realise tarantino has nothing to do with this film, his name is used for marketing etc i believe.
ie tarantino presents (as they did with HERO )

I suspect Tarantino had nowt to do with Hostel.
The term 'Executive Producer' 90% of the time refers to a role where people do naff all but recieve points/a fee. It's kind of a Hollywood backslap. So there's probably been a deal brokered where Tarantino puts his name behind the movie, gets it extra kudos/attention, in return for that exec. producer credit.
Look at how many actors get the position (just noticed Sutherland has it in 24 also). It's most probably a stipulation in the contract rather than any meaningful involvement.

quite often an exec producer can just be the guy that said "I know so-and-so, I'll introduce you to him" and got the ball rolling on a movie. Like has already been said, it can often just be a nonsense credit. I see that QT gets himself a slot on one of the commentaries on the upcoming Hostel DVD though... be nice if he'd record one for one of his own flicks rather than always sitting in on someone elses. Having said that, his was a solid com on True Romance

    And sometimes not :thumbsdow

Ages ago I downloaded a horror movie which was obviously a pirate film shot from a cinema seat. It was appauling and put me off the film totally. I then rented it out a while later and found a totally different viewing experience. I since went on to purchase it for my collection and have watched it several times since.

Sadly, it's not that type of pirate floating about on the net. On the flipside, yet another forum member (woodywizz) brags about being a pirate. Let's just wait for FACT to ask Stuart to start providing IP addresses (and that day will come) and we'll see if the bravado of not paying for movies is worth it.

Tarantino had nothin to do with Hostel, He's Eli Roth's friend so he just put his name on the credits to help sell the film.

Plus this film was crap and while I don't agree with piracy, its not worth any money either.

I saw Hostel over the weekend. It was a good film, entertaining and enjoyable however I think all the hype built up my expectation a little too much and so what I expected to be a complete blood bath didn't really deliver. Sure it's gory but not on the level that I expecting. Lots of female nudity though which is always a good thing lol

Saw this last night and agreed it is a good film, certainly a good premise and while i think it could have been better it was still good. I particularly liked the irony at the end, oh and all the T&A! :D

However i am not sure i could call it enjoyable, while it wasnt the gore fest some expected, it is still pretty extreme and maybe it was the actual subject of torture that left me feeling a little disturbed rather than how much gore there was.

I must admit it is uncomfortable viewing in places, but still a film worth watching, however i have cancelled my DVD pre order as i dont think it will be a film i'll be watching again in a while.

Not that this is on topic - however you assume that Stuart wouldn't want to assist them. The only person who can answer that is Stuart, but given his postings warning of people discussing piracy, I can safetly assume he would assist.

Even if he went the opposite way, they could either sieze the server that the forum is on, under the basis of promoting piracy/copyright theft (which given the idiots talking about downloading HD content, wouldn't be difficult) under an Anton Pillar order (although this would be highly unlikely - but possible) or they would prosecute "persons unknown" and possibly issue a disclosure order on Stuart to obtain the information required.

Also not very on topic but I don't see the point of having a AV system worth £8000+ and then feeding it sub standard inferior material. Pirates suck.

Watched hostel today, and guess what?, it was good. It started off kinda amercian pie, with loads of titys etc, but once the kidnapping began it was menacing.

Yes it was not the gorefest people first thought, and i was please about that, do we really want to see full on torture of people?, yeh ok, but from a distance maybe, so with the camera moving away at times was ok.

The film made me nervous and uncomfortable. It turned out to be a smarter film than i expected and much better than cabin fever.
Its worth watching, its also the first film i watched on my own, as nobody watched to see it!. The main lead guy in the film was pretty natural in the role.

The solvakian tourist board probably hate it!, does not do them any favours. 7-8/10

It's amazing what you can do if you own a small duplaex cinema. What did the rest of the audience say to watching a blank screen. :rotfl:

I've cancelled my pre-order of this based on the overwhelming bad word-of-mouth. However, i do have a UGC/Cineworld Unlimited pass so i might nip into the flicks and catch it before it's theartical run ends.

I assume you mean renting then, or are you another person promoting the downloading of pirated material, given the  tag?
