I'm struggling to believe that this is true in this day and age, it sounds like the basis for a film not an actual true story, its horrific

The story here says that the woman was schizophrenic and because of this it was believed she was possessed. The 'priest' concerned can't understand what all the fuss is about.....he crucified her for pity's sake!!!

    ....words fail me.

The majority of the relgious faiths are based on ignorance of biology, physics and other sciences.

Just like polynesians beleived the fire god was upset when a volcano errupted, other relegions have mistaken the mentaly ill as phrophets and the possesed alike.

Whilst this case is shocking and upseting, it is not entirely suprising.
There are arcane and inhuman relegious practices going on all over the world - and quite a large percentage of humanity still believe very orthodox relgious views.

My personal opinion is that ANY organised relegion is arcane - and supports by proxy the beliefs of others no matter how extreme they are - because you all belong to the same belief structures and use EXACTLY the same justifications for your beliefs.

ANY relgious person that is shocked by this story should consider that the same 'belief' that they have in god and their relegion was used by these priests and nuns to commit what is in effect manslaughter. They have EXACTLY as much evidence supporting their beliefs as you - because they are the SAME beliefs interpreted slightly more archaicly.

..... and to think Tony Blair wants to push through a law making it ILLEGAL to critisize someones 'beliefs'.
If you thought humanity had progressed .... you were sadly mistaken, its just a PR scam.
