Horizontal shift on Epson TW2000 - question

Am about to buy my first projector, and having done a lot of research on here, am going to buy a TW2000 for £2,189 from Pixmania. However, my room is a pain - wont be able to have the projector ceiling mounted or in the middle of the room. So I think you can horizontal shift by 47% on the Epson. Just to make sure - this means I can shift the centre of the image left or right by 47% of the horizontal screen size right? EG if my screen is 203cm wide, I can have the centre of the projector lens 95 cms to the left or right of the centre of my room?

Also does horizontal shift affect the quality of the image at all?

Thanks in advance

From the Epson manual (page 10):
“When positioning an image using the lens shift dial, hardly any deterioration of the image occurs because the lens shift correction is adjusted optically. However, for optimal image quality the lens shift function should not be used.”

By the sound of it, I am in a very similar situation with both the room layout & pre purchase state. I too have been looking closely at the Epson EMP-TW2000 and recently went to Projector Point for a demo & was blown away. However, reading these forums has caused me to pause as I understand that Epson, amongst others, are releasing new models in October. And so I wait, credit card gently smouldering, with baited breath....!

Thanks for that Lordfun - Epson page seems to be down at the moment. Do you know if my assumption re the 47% etc lens shift is correct?

I hesitate in giving a direct answer as there are other factors to consider such as screen type (16:9 or 4:3), screen size and the projection distance. The manual includes a table to help calculate this.

Just tried the Epson link again & it works for me. If you can't get to it, let me know & I will PM it to you.

Have got the manual now Lordfun. Thanks - it explains it a lot more. Its going to be tight to fit my projector where I want to fit it. Will check tonight.

The replacement for the TW2000 is not likely to hit these shores until late January 2009 so you will probably see the TW2000 being phased out in December.

Just so you are aware the TW2000 from Pixmania will not be covered by the UK 3 year warranty. It may still have a 3 year warranty but it will need to be serviced from whatever European country it came from.

The UK 3 year warranty (incl lamp) is different in that it is an on-site warranty where the Epson engineer will come to site and if he cannot repair it there and then he will leave you another unit whilst yours is in for repair.
