Since installing XP Professional I now have fine horizontal banding running up or down the screen.

It come and goes but is there about 75% of the time.

It looks exactly like EMF but it can't be.

Without changing a thing I booted in ME and it is gone.

When I use XP it is back.

    I am using a 9500 PRO.

I posted an AVS but no-one helped, so now it's up to you lot.

    Regards,

    Henry

    Two thoughts.

Are you using the same resolution/refresh rate in both XP and ME? You might be 'hitting' a frequency which has some interference on it.

Have you tried different video card drivers?

It could be XP has picked a really low refresh rate.

I went from 98 to XP everything worked apart from XP slecting a generic low res low refresh driver. I changed it to the "proper" driver and got a better resolution. You could be experiencing a similar thing.

    I have tried that:

60hz, 72hz. 85hz. It's all the same except the banding gets tighter the higher the refresh rate.

I tried the standard Cat drivers that came with the card and the latest cat 3. No difference.

Very Strange thing: When playing a DVD I can see the lines. If I pause the DVD the lines are still there and moving but if I keep hitting the space bar- pausing and unpausing I can make them go for a while but they soon come back.

I know this sounds really weird.

Games are also a bit stuttery and I only score 7395 in 3dmark2001. I also cannot get games to play in anything other than 60HZ.

Could it be the KT7A abit board I'm using.

Or maybe XP is putting more drain on the CPU & memory and my 225w PSU struggles but copes under ME?

I think a new PSU would be a good investment, all sorts of problems go away with a descent power supply.
