I've ordered that the other day. If you enjoy a good jap film give volcano high a go. The effects and action are amazing.
I have just got returner so i'll give that a go later.

Volcano High is a Korean film

Great fun film though a bit pointless but great action and fight scenes.
Shaolin Soccer is great as well. I think it's the ultimate feel good movie (at least what asian films are concerned)

Bought Infernal affairs this morning lets see how good that one is.

HKL have a new label out called Premier Asia which will feature films from other areas of the far east.

So far they have only released Bichumoo - but more are in the pipeline.

Shaolin Soccer is indeed a brilliant film. You can get more of the same with God of Cookery which is also a Stephen Chow film. :)

Just saw Infernal Affairs on the weekend and OMG HK cinema has come of age. I am going to be getting a lot more in Far Eastern movies after this. If they didn't keeping pimping their movies to Hollywood in exchange for cash HK cinema could be a force to recon with. And the music in this movie is just fantastic.

And Shaolin Soccer was just so damn funny, it made a change from sexual innuendo that we get from the US.

Not a big fan of Returner, could have been a lot better. But tbh I think I prefer HK, Jap and Korean films now to the majority of hollywood fare

I thought I was one of the only people to watch Shaolin soccer, then again I first saw it not long after it had been released on VCD.

What's the DVD picture quality like, as I remember the (official no less) VCD as being bad, even for low bit rate MPEG1 encoding?

I thought the picture on the DVD of Shaolin Soccer was excellent, I have a 36" TV that really is fussy with a bad picture. Although I have also read that comapred to the VCD it has been cropped.

I was uploading this to my dvdprofiler last week and when I picked the version I had someone's review comments came up in the top coner in the preview section and totally slated it. I couldn't believe someone could watch this and hate it so much.

    Hi,

    1. Best place to get Shaolin Soccer - DDDHouse??

    2. DDDHouse use registered post, which is a little annoying, as Im never at home during work hours. How come CD-WOW do not use registered post with HK dvds?.

    3. Do you guys only get DVDS, or would you consider VCD's (or are they poor in every way)?.

    4. Can anyone remember the name of the HK/koren/jap film which has zombies and (family) singing in it, - ''sound of music meets Zombie Dead''. It is in current dvd mag (not at hand).

I wanna order that, Shaolin Soccer, and Volcano High (maybe).

shoalin kid, ive been a fan of hong kong 'heroic bloodshead' films for about 13 yrs now, the kung fu films never really interested me. apart from a few jackie chan films like meals on wheels.
Im a big fan of chow yun fat and have been before he went to hollywood, i recomend watching the better tomorrow trilogy to anyone and also god of gamblers, full contact, tiger on the beat, city on fire, once a thief, hard boiled, prison on fire.
And other films such as encounters of the spooky kind, nocturnal demon and mr vampire.

    Me :D
Carter Wong, John Liu, Gordon Liu, Hwang Jang Lee, Alexander Lo Rei, Lo Lieh, Billy Chong, Sonny Chiba.... I could go on for ages about how much butt these guys could kick. Been a fan since I was a kid in the 70's.
Born Invincible, Shaolin Invincibles, Human Skin Lanterns, Kung Fu From Beyond The Grave, Chinese Super Ninjas, 36 Chambers Of Shaolin... ACE stuff. I love all that wild undercranked highkicking action - give me that over Jet Li's latest Hollywood garbage any day of the week

agreed I love that film, The Prodigal Son is my favourite though!

Am I the only person that loves 70s kung fu with the corny english dubbing track tho? I find them hilarious and find they add so much more to the films.

I watch loads of HK cinema; not just Kung Fu movies. I usually hate dubs, but the 'gay/camp' dubbing on Prodigal Son is hilarious.:rotfl:
