I have finally completed my Homebuilt HCPC case.

The case was built purely as a one off and has taken much longer to create than I had intended. The front is 8mm thick Aluminium plate which has been machined on a milling machine. All buttons are turned aluminium with push button switches behind them.

The system has switches which allow you to switch off the LED's. This means that the machine can work in complete darkness without any light polution if required.

I wanted create a piece of furniture that looked like hi end hifi but did not look like a computer.

I would look at the many commercial cases before contemplating a project like this. Creating a one off is like producing a prototype and is not really cost effective. However I am very pleased with the end result.

I have attached some photos to give an idea what it is like. Unfortunately the camera is not that great.

Well done, I bet it was a lot of hard work getting it sorted. I've often contemplated makeing my own case, but the ready made ones are getting better all the time so I doubt I ever will.

    Looks neat :smashin:

Did you actually make the whole case or just the front fascia pannel ?

I made my HTPC entirely from scratch also...here are a few pictures:

Again all the lights are switchable.

Alan: Must come and see it again sometime. Unbelievably busy just now so doubt it can happen until after Event2

Thanks for all the positive feedback folks.

Jeff : It was a lot of hard work, and I agree the commercial cases are now a lot better than they were when I started building mine. When you consider the time involved to develop your own they are also good value for money. I hope to see K2 at Event2, will it be there ?

Lee : Nice work, although obviously a different design remit. My HCPC was a standard case and I created the front panel. However the chassis had to be severely modified to get the drives mounted and the DVD in exactly the right place. Where the slot is in the facia the metal has been reduced to less than 2mm thick this means that dvd's only ever touch the guides in the original drive and can not touch the aluminium.

Gordon : You are welcome to come and pay a visit at any time the system has probably moved on again since you saw it last. Glad to hear business is good.

It all depends on the motherboard, its never been used for HTPC applications before, bleeding edge doesn't even begin to describe it. It could all go drastically wrong yet. Hopefully it will arrive next week so I can start to put it through its paces. Big risk but I'll be estatic if it works out. I don't want to say anything yet as it could compromise the arrival of the board.
