I have had a search around but I have found loads of different dates for the european release of HOME, does anyone know of the correct date ?

I can't get enough of the clips on youtube and other sites, it really does look like a great idea, such a community feel to everything, can't wait to invite friends round to your pad (in Home not your real one) and show off your achievments, maybe even show them the picture hanging on the wall of the winning goal in your last PE7 match.

I know it's old but here is the GDC clip link for those who have yet to see it:

CLICKY

The amount of options to make it really your home looks, soo good.

Do you think if you get an invite over to a "Girl friends" home your missus would class it as cheating ? ;)

I hope when it launches we can hold a AVF party in sombody's gaf ?

I don't think Sony has announced an official date yet. There is a closed beta going on at the moment followed by an open beta. September is a likely time but we'll have to wait until Sony confirms a date. It is quite possible it may be launched in the US before it's available here.

It's supposed to be September/October time. The beta is going on right now so I guess it depends on how that goes.

There were several references to a September release at Gamer's Day, I reckon they'll have it out before the US holiday season (November)

According to wikipedia:
The Home System is currently in the Closed Beta stage (approx. 15,000 users): In July there will be an Open Beta, with a public release scheduled for October.

www.homebetratrial.com still says it's for signup for the closed beta.. and it has had the odd tweak now and then so Sony haven't abandoned it - that implies there won't be an open beta in July (otherwise they've only got about 2 weeks to run the european closed beta which would be pointless).

Thanks for info though :) cant access it at work, so gonna try sign up tonight, or might try do it on my N95 now lol!

just tried now on phone, and all the site says is keep checking for updates about how to become a beta user, nothing about signing up or anything :(

That's because sign ups for the open beta haven't started yet. I'm sure someone will post here when they do start.

There is a live Q&A session in HOME on friday with the guy who organises all UK beta trials, so im sure someone will ask him when the open beta is starting (as well as many other pertinent questions)

If there is any promising news i will post it up here

But really, until they expand it a bit, you aint missing much!

Somthing else that wont be going on my PS3. I'd rather play 70s games than walk around a virtual shopping centre.

Stop wasting time Sony and give us some GAMES.

You may not be looking forward to it but a lot of people including myself are. And not working on Home is hardly going to speed up game developement anyway. It's not like the whole Sony development department is just working on Home.

No, but maybe enough for a AAA title, my personal preference, or support for XMB features and networking. Something I can use the system for, rather than virtual ad-ridden markets of various kinds.

Considering you haven't even used it yet I don't think you should be assuming that's all it's going to be. I suspect there is a lot more depth to it then that. Personally I'm prepared to give Sony the benefit of the doubt. If it turns out to be a virtual world version of Xbox Live then it should be worthwhile. IMHO Sony deserves credit for trying something new and if it can pull it off then it might give some serious competition to Microsoft. If you're not happy with the level of content then you should have waited another year or so before buying the PS3.

You do realise that every game on all the consoles are not always made my that consoles manufacturer?
Plus you do realise how large Sony is? They can have people working on home...and people working on firmware updates? ;)

IMO Home is going to be BIG, very big. I cant see many people not wanting to be apart of it. Its the future, but thats just what I think

Indeed, looking at Second Life, World of Warcraft and even Myspace etc, social networking and interaction is a huge part of the online world.

Whilst it may not be traditional for gamers there is no denying that this type of thing is hugely popular and I can only see it adding to the appeal of the PS3.

Whilst I normally don't go for this type of thing, it does look hugely promising and am looking forward to trying it out for myself.

I agree with Moogle in that Sony should be commended for bringing something new to the table and driving new ways/types of gaming...
