Hi all. Has anyone been in the past or going to the Home Entertainment Show this weekend in Manchester. Is it any good for seeing whats new and wonderful in regards to plasmas. Is it worth the trip up north all the way from luton. The reason I ask is that I went to the Hi Fi and AV show at Heathrow a few weeks back and was very disappointed because Pioneer was the only company showing their plasmas.

No idea, although my experience of consumer shows is that they rarely demo plasmas specifically - if there are any, it's as part of a whole system rather than in it's own right.

If seeing well configured plasmas is what you're after, maybe EventII would be better, assuming you can wait that long and places are still available ?

    Cheers, Carl.

Have and am going to the show. In the past Fujitsu, Panasonic, Sony and Philips plasmas on display on their own and a part of display of Home Cinema set ups. Usually a few projectors on the go as well. All in all a very good diverse show. :smashin:

I would go if only to witness the new Pioneer panels. Outstanding indeed.
They have some High Def material from Japan which is unbelievable.

They are also showcasing HDMI, watch a £25 HDMI cable wee all over a £500 QED component connect:smoke:

Also worth a look is the DVD/HDD recorder, the DV5100H.

    Superb range.

EDIT: The UK product manager, Jimbo is a joy to speak with and has a real passion for the product. A rare thing in these box shifting days I assure you..............

I would like to thank Jim Catcheside and John Bamford if they are reading this for such an engaging and entertaining day.

I promise to prevent the guy with the glasses who was being so obnoxious entrance to further events if I see him. I thought he was a journalist from WHF or something .

    Cheers, Brock.

    mralsal,

It was very good last year and I will hopefully be going again this year.

I went last year to see the plasma screens...
But wanted to compare the different plasmas, the problem I found was that some of the manufactures were using High Definition boxes to feed the displays !
This is not good when you are trying to compare screens.

Also Panasonic was suck in a tiny room upstairs!!!!!!!
I think due to that fact that they make the best plasma screens (last year).

I nearly ending up buying a Panny D5 at the show, but ended up getting a D4 from AV-Sales at a very good price, and never looked back...

    Regards,

    Bluebear.

Toddled along to the show this afternoon - £3 to get in.

The new pioneers are there. Pioneer have have a smallish room with both models on show. Watched Attack of clones through SVid ! Great picture considering.

However they also have a joint effort with KEF in two larger rooms. The 504 wasn't on because the KEF guy was doing a DVD Audio demo. He said he wanted to show us a clip from LOTR but he couldn't work out how to get the right input on the 504 and the Pioneer guy had gone for a fag !

However better luck in next room with the KEF/434 combo. Showing Spiderman on DVD through the HDMI input. Best picture I've ever seen

Colours fantastic/contrast levels great/really did look 3D like.
Back at home now in front of my Sony 32" CRT WS and can't believe how bad it now looks.

I'm sold and will be buying a 434 early next year when house alterations are done.

Panasonic/Fujitsu/Philips had their main screens on display but not in a decent set up like the Pioneer efforts. Sony have plenty on show.

Worth a look if you are around Manc land this weekend.

I was there Friday afternoon and can say it is an extremely good show! Plenty have plasmas throughout with Denon, Marantz and Sony providing good demo's of amps and projectors. Many more to be seen on all floors. The new Yamaha Z9 amp is on display and it is pretty awesome! Can't wait for the reviews. Well worth £3 admission and I may well go again Sunday.

    delta,
I was considering not bothering with the 240 mile round trip, now you tell me the yamaha Z9 is there I can't wait !
I was going to go to view plasmas, but last year was a little disappointed and came away wanting a larger house to fit a projector.
Panasonic concentrated on all-in-one boxes and managed to make the series-5 look at it's absolute worse with a 3:4 DVD.
Fujitsu showed a great static picture !

That said, I'm up at 7:00 tomorrow to set off in plenty of time.
I wonder if I can pre-order the Z9 and get the usual 10% show discount ?

The only worry I have is I'll see the new 434 and change my mind from the panasonic PHD-6. If only Joe/Liam could get a very thick silver bezel for the 434 !
