The best setups use something other than Bose as a base.

The AM15 is all you need really - you'll get bass from the acoustimaster module ok

I have it and really like it - small speakers that never sound small

Why is it that Bose speakers always seem to get slagged off, I have no axe to grind regarding any setup,
but having heard the bose in a proper demo,s on various occasions, I think they are remarkable, I remember the Helecopter scene in Cliffhangar,

I thought the bloody ceiling was coming off, and every one in the room thought they sounded ace as well.

I,m not for one minute suggesting they are the best speakers in the world, but I think it is quite unfair
and no I dont own them.

Interesting point, Bose have a dismal reputation amongst enthusiasts, particularly in the USA.
There are many forums and sites which exist just to diss Bose.
Just as people are ridiculed for buying Sony, it is almost proof of ignorance to have a Bose Acoustimass system.
Well, a few of my friends have heard my set up of, to them, obscure separates, assembled over many years, they all say it is really good. When it came to buying there own equipment, I was asked to accompany them to demo Bose, Kef KHT-2005 and Mission 77 pack from Richer Sounds, and others.
To a man, (and woman), they all thought the Bose was better value and better sounding. They all now have Bose and are delighted with no intentions of "upgrading".
My protest that it was all boom and tizz, with no mid-range, initially thrilling, later to disappoint, fell on deaf ears.
They all also have Sony televisions with which they are also delighted.

I can't agree more with the above 2 posts

For me the Bose does something different to the normal speakers - To me it does sound more lifelike. I don't what Dr Bose does but the speakers are natural and life like sounding

I would like to see the new range of 701 and 601 speakers now

With respect guys, get real pleeease. 3 dollar drivers in cheap and nasty plastic enclosures do indeed give a different sound to normal speakers. The sound of a Pepsi tin being kicked around!

With half the cost of ANY Bose system, most knowledgable members in this and other forums can put together a set up far far better than these so called 'Lifestyle' products any day of the week. (except sunday)

What z6453764374836363728383823762737228372 says is partly true. He has the nice tinny plastic speakers and I have the horrid great sounding ones. We have been divorced for three months but she  still wont move out.

    I'm closing this thread, now.
My experience of Bose arguments on the internet goes back a long way.
Bose owners like the sound and style of them and defend them.
Non-Bose owners (a lot of them) argue that there is no mid range and that Bose marketing has had far too big a proportion of the development costs.
My advice is to take what everyone says with a pinch of salt (including me) and listen to them yourself. If you're inexperienced and don't know what to listen for, read the authorative reviews from publications such as Home Cinema Choice and listen to a lot of speaker systems.
I haven't heard Bose speakers but I'm suspicious of a company who refuse to release technical info about their speakers such as frequency ranges etc. If the components used are indeed cheap, then it is difficult to imagine how such small speakers could produce quality mid range. I recall from several reviews I have read that they are indeed 'boom and tizz' and convince (read excite) the inexperienced ear but disappoint the experienced ear.
