Hi,

I'm looking at converting the garage into a home cinema. It 9ft by 16ft. The room will have an off white ceiling with a matt cappuccino colour walls and no windows. I'm getting a JVC DLA-HD750 which will pointed straight at the screen on a dedicated projector table/stand. Is this a good choice. I have been playing with JVC DLA-HD750 Projection Calculator - Throw Distance and Screen Size to get an idea of distances etc I can use.

I'm confused about which projector screen to get. I want to use the projector during the day with ambient lighting mainly for the kids to watch frozen etc... so I wouldn't call that requirement reference viewing and if I was going to watch a movie/box-sets the lights will be off. I'm looking for a 100" size fixed/manual screen. Could you please give recommendations/suggestions? I am budgeting around £400 as I have no idea how much should be spent. The rest of the setup is a Denon DVP-2500 (Blu-ray player), Denon AVR-2808 receiver, Arcam Muso + Logo 5.1 speakers + sub.

Thanks
Haider

The HD750 isn't a very bright projector by modern standards, hopefully it will be still be useable with some ambient lighting. Darker walls may help with the image quality as well. Devore black velvet panels around the screen make a big difference to how the image on the screen looks.

You think the Epson EH-TW6700 is better?

I'd say check some reviews and go and see the projectors you are considering. The HD750 is an old projector maybe 7- 8 years old, bulbs are quite expensive to replace, and has it got any kind of warranty ?. The Epson TW6700 is brighter and better suited to be used in ambient lighting. I haven't experienced either of the projectors though. Unless the HD750 is real bargain price I wouldn't want to spend lots on such an old projector.

Too late pulled the trigger on it £809. I have watched them a few times, I'll be honest when I ever I have watched the JVC they just trounce 1-2k projectors, they are just so much more cinematic/filmic. After watching a Pany TX-P50VT20 day in day out, the projector needs to deliver on quality and quantity.

I think I'll put either the Pany TX-P50VT20 plasma or the Sony KDL42W705B kids LCD behind a pull down screen for ambient light viewing. I'll get a Diamond lamp unit Welcome to Diamond Lamps the Projector Lamp specialists | Diamond Lamps | Diamond Lamps - Products, apparently they use the OEM bulbs for around £120. I intend to get it ISF calibrated so no point in skimping over an OE bulb.

I think the warranties long gone, I have a friend of a friend who are the official London Panasonic repair centre, they may also have a JVC franchise, not sure either way it going to be played on odd occasions rather than all the time...

Any ideas if these Grand View Cyber Screen are good Page Not Found | Grandview Cyber are a good match?

If your looking at a fixed screen, then the sapphire screens are very good. Very pleased with mine.
