hi all,
ive got a sony davdz260 connectd to a jvc. not sure on tv model but only few months old and full hd.

the picture is good when watch tv but when watching a dvd the quailty is 'grainy' or a very slighty fuzzy and not sharp.

im using a pretty cheap hdmi cable but apparently these dont make a difference?

what can i do, are the setting wrong or somthing. im sure the quality should be better than this

thanks people

Could be anything.

Make sure the DVD player is outputting at 1080p. It could be a crappy upscaler so would look fuzzyish. You don't mention TV model/size etc as these will make a difference. Also what TV picture mode are you using? Please don't say Dynamic.

At the end of the day, DVDs are 480p/576p and you're upscaling to 1080p, 4x the resolution. They can only look so good. If you don't have a good deinterlacer/upscaler in your player or TV then it won't look the best.

Some DVDs look great at native res and pants when upscaled, some DVDs look great at native res and actually upscale quite well. It just depends :)

You also haven't mentioned what TV source you're watching. Freeview? Sky HD?
Eg DVDs will look better than Freeview, but would look worse than Sky HD.

You dont say what you are comparing it to? HD TV is always going to be a lot better than dvds?

hi guys,
ive only got freeview.

the model is jvc- LT-39dg52j.

ive just found(finally) the settings and it was outputting 1080i not 1080p so hopefully that will help.
are there any other tips like this that may be holding it back? or other settings?

thanks for the help people. as you can probably tell im useless at this sort of stuff :)
