    Hi all!
Want to pick your brains please. Looking to buy a home cinema system with dvd player but only got £200 stretching to £300 to spend. Im hoping for multi-region and pro logic 2. Also want to attach it to my laptop so can play music off that through the speakers.

Am i being realistic or will i need more cash?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on what you want to do. If the laptop has a 3.5mm jack you'll need a 3.5mm to RCA phono lead and a system with an aux (RCA) input. If your laptop outputs digital you'll need an spdif lead.

Once you know your input source you can look for a cinema system.

At the 200-300 price point you might not get all the options and inputs you want in an all in one.

Might be worth considering a speaker system like the Sony SS1000 and connecting this to a 'cheap' DVD player. This would give you more verstaility and choice of inputs.

    Hope this helps,
    Neil

Hiya Neil thanks for the advice. Sorry dealing with a total newbie though. How do I find out if my laptop outputs digital am I looking for a certain connection. Doubt it has as fairly cheap one but would like to be sure first. Like the look of that ss1000 have heard that Sony's are usually quite good.
Thanks for your help much appreciated.

Helena, I'd suggest checking out the documentation and manufacturers website for the laptop.

I'm biased about Sony atm :)

i would say,to look in the manuals of the laptop for something called "DVI out".
if your laptop is vga out only,it will connect to the average lcd tv,but the sound would then have to be connected to the surround,to get the effect.

Thinking of getting the sony ht-ss1100 will i be able to attach all this together as not sure that the amp has a scart socket?
