Nice sunset shots holo
I'm not criticising your work as they are really good pics but I think some of them can be improved a bit more by straightening the horizons and cropping or cloning out some of the distractions such as the bottom left of this one.....

Thanks a lot for that bowenjones, all criticism welcome here. When I get some time will have a go at it. Have been talking to the wife about upgrading the camara as well next year, might move into SLR.

Don't let her read this forum then mate otherwise she might start to realise how much it's going to cost you
Seriously though, moving to a dslr has been one of the most satisfying and rewarding things I've done. You won't regret it if you go down that route

Edit;
Just had a quick go at those two pics. Hopefully you will agree that a bit of straightening and cloning can make a difference....

Thats spot on bowenjones. It just show what little work need be done just to improve a picture. Never done cloning before so will look into it.

As for the DSLR hope you willall be ready to answer some questions when I am ready to buy:rotfl: I know its going to cost me a few quid, but have been looking at the pictures of some the others am some are brillant.

Thanks for the help:smashin:

Hi there

Had a go at the cloning tool and also straightened the other one up.Also after resizing the pictures I sharpened them up a bit which I think helped.

This is one of daughter Ellie. Had to do a little bit of cloning on this one as well.

Hi there

This is one of Ellie again who is usually main topic off a lot of pictures I take. Theres something about this one that I really like, might be the eyes or maybe the way its taken off centre. Not sure what it is, maybe its just a dad thing :rotfl:

Talkinhg off dads here mine, its not often you get a good picture off him so this is a rare one. Did mess about greyscaleing this one but it didn't work for me.

Hi ya

Well went out and got a Canon 400d. Decided to pop up to Ruislip Lido to give it a go. Was a very cloudy day, so not a lot of light. Thing that got me was when I got home I had taken 260 pictures  so been sorting through them to see if any are worthwhile for this months competition. Which is wildlife. These are some of the ones that will not make it. Have also been told that I got to take my little one there tomorrow whith bread so fingerscrossed it may be a better day, also looking at the pictures I can see were I am going a bit wrong in some.

One thing I think I will need in the future is a bigger lens for this kind of stuff.

Next three I like the way the backgrounds are outfocus, with the main swan in each being infocus, if you know what I mean.

This is the one I nearly entered for this mouth compo, but wife liked the other one better and helped me to make up my mind.

Hey holo
just looking through these for the first time. I like the 'squint' one of your little girl - the look on her face is somewhere between mischief and feeling sorry for herself - and the plaster on her leg fits nicely with that!
Also, those sunset shots - were they on the Bodrum peninsula, down towards Turgutreis (sp?)? If so, spent a great two weeks there years ago, and the sunsets over the islands were one of the best things - you've captured them nicely. I was reading The Beach at the time and the islands in the distance got my imagination going!
Col
PS trying to persuade the wife to let me have a DSLR at the mo - will let you know how I get on. Christmas and birthday both just passed with no joy, so not holding my breath!

Thanks for having a look.

Little one is a bit of a character.

As for the sunset ones they were taken just off Fethiye, have been there 4 times now, the three of us love it there. Last year we stayed in a place called Calis Beach, were the sun set over the sea each night. Its also a good place for the family.

Wish the weather was bit better, been working down in Brighton last few days and it hasn’t stopped raining, was hoping to try the camera on the sea front and maybe the pavilion which to far from were I am working. Took some today but they are a bit dull.

Hi again
Did you use a flash for this? Either way, the front swan looks superimposed on the ducks in the background - really nice depth of field. The background looks really grainy, highlighting the swans' pristine whiteness. Only comment would be that it would be nice if there was just one swan, to make the contrast greater. Good work.
Col
PS How do you get the photos to disply in the actial post, rather than as a thumbnail like in mine? I can't seem to get it to work.

Agree with you on the swan, it is a pity the other one is there. Didn't use a flash.

I used the sports mode on the 400d
Tv( Shutter Speed ) 1/800
Av( Aperture Value ) 8.0
ISO Speed 400
Lens EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6
Focal Length 55.0 mm

PS How do you get the photos to disply in the actial post, rather than as a thumbnail like in mine? I can't seem to get it to work.

I host the pictures on some cheap web space I have, and then link it from there.
