Don't know if anyone is interested in this but sigma designs have just announced they are producing a new card in March called the X-Card ($99) and that it will have component and scart output and best of all will support divx.
    There's a press release at

    http://www.sigmadesigns.com/news/press_releases/020205a.htm

I think it may be time for me to start saving the pennies again!

    Cheers

I wanna see if the region changing can be done as easily on this as with the old one and the likes of Dvd Genie first. Even if the quality is great I still want unlimited manual region changes to be possible at least.

If I can't do region changes it's useless. The price sounds good though especially if it comes with remote.

Also I hope they somehow get around the old problem where you had to have a monitor plugged in to get to your desktop etc.

On the newsgroups the bloke that works for sigma, Nagui, says that "It uses a new
pass-thru cable that has virtually no degradation even at the highest
    resolutions/refresh rates offered by today's monitors/graphic cards"

Whether it does or not is another matter - but there have been tons of complaints about the pass-thru cable in the past so maybe they have sorted it.
Does anyone else believe in the conspiracy theory that DivX+ (the prog that lets u use divx on H+) was written by Sigma to test the waters for a proper card, bearing in mind that it would only work some of the time on a very strict configuration?

Doesn't seem to be much about Region Selection on the ng's or anything i've seen yet - but lets face it someone is going to write a prog to get round it, they always do! (just watch then don't do it now just to spite me!!)

    Cheers

the pass thru-cable is only used to pass the VGA information, and if you plan to "overlay" the picture.

If you use the deadicated outputs, the signal does not touch the pass thru cable.

    If you nip along to

    http://dvd.box.sk/

then there is a download link to a prog called HHPlus 1.0.1.5 which does the DivX thing - it should work on 9x/2k but unfortunately not XP.

The homepage for the prog has disappeared, or is down for the mo - so it may be best to get it whilst you can.

Just in case anyone still hasn't found a copy of DivX+ it can be found at

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/vcdtools.htm

its about halfway down the page and is only a small download, around 300k.

Remember though that this is a very shaky piece of software, when it works its amazing, its just a shame that 99% of the time it just crashes.

Good luck to anyone brave enough to try tho

    Cheers

Sounds about right - my experience of divx is that i managed to watch one film (Exit Wounds) and then when i tried to load in the next film it just didn't want to know. Nothing had changed - it was exactly the same configuration and it wouldn't even load Exit Wounds again.

Wish i'd watched a better film now!! :)

Still it was worth a try and there is always that X-Card to spend more bloody money on!

    Cheers

I see the point, but frankly all those R1 discs i have will be pretty useless (ok, exaggerating a bit here as I do have my standalone player and pc). Progressive scan won't mean much either when I can't play these.
