A quick question for you guys who are up and running already. How big a download is HL2 over Steam? I've got 1MB ADSL but don't want to have to leave the thing downloading for days

Alternatively, anybody know a source of the CD retail version? (It does exist according to Valves website.)

According to the properties in Steam it is only 830 megs, I know when I downloaded it was over days, so I am not sure that the value in steam is the proper one.

CD retail does not exist in EU where HL2 is DVD only. If you order physical content from another country outside the EU you will probably have to pay tax and duty and courier fee. This will come to more than £15 a DVD-ROM drive would cost you.

Steam download is 3.5GB or so, shouldn't take too long to download with 1Mb connection.

Think it took me a couple of hours on a 2M connection.

Can someone please tell me where in the Steam service do I find the free-of-charge HL2 download? I can only find the links for purchasing the game, but I'm supposed to get it free for my ATI card.

    Thanks.

Dr. Rock - this is from the Support page on www.steampowered.com

    The question is:
HL2 ATI CDKEY Owners Package Details - What do I get, how do I get it?

    The answer is:
ATI/Half-Life 2 bundle owners may redeem their HL2 product key for the HL2 Bronze package or apply their voucher toward the purchase of either the Gold or Silver offers, receiving a credit equal to the price of the Bronze offer.

To redeem your ATI voucher for HL2 Bronze or upgrade to Gold or to Silver packages, you must first register your ATI CDKey to a Steam Account, then purchase HL2 on that account.

The HL2 "Bronze" Package consists of:
    -- Half-Life 2*
    -- Counter-Strike: Source
*(To be made available upon product's release.)

    See page here.

Drat! They need my ATI CD-Key?

I returned my faulty 9800XT and gave all the CD's back, but i kept the voucher thinking that was all I needed to keep old of. So I'm not going to remember my ATI CD Key number. :(

No the code is on the voucher, it was on mine anyway ( I think I had to scratch off a section to see it)

You are a bit naughty for hanging on to that voucher though. Good games deserve to be paid for.

Ah, you mean the "Half Life 2 Activation Key" scratch-off. I indeed have that. I thought you were talking about the graphoc's card drivers CD-key, which I don't remember being a CD key for anyway.

Well it was total accident I didn't return the voucher, as I kept it separate to the other bits and bobs that came with the graphics card. And the supplier only said to return the hardware, CD's and cables which was originally planned that they'll repair/replace them. My new card is an ATI X800XT which will have better performance on HL2, yet I'm surprised that it didn't come with a HL2 voucher as the previous ATI cards had done so.

    What a luxury mate.

Took a day and night to load in on a 512k connection. So shouldn't take you too long. Unless you need the connection for other things I find the beauty is that you can just leave it do it's thing and it doesn't upset the others in the house.
