    Hi,
I have the Harman Kardon HKTS 11 speaker package and the Harman Kardon AVR 255 amp. I turned the sub off at the plug last night and when i came to turn it back on this morning the sub stays in standby mode (orange light). Usually when a signal is received the sub activates (blue light) immediately. I have tried switching the Power On switch on the back of the sub from Auto to On, which should make the sub activate regardless of whether a signal is being received however this does not seem to work either. Has anyone had any similar problems or got any ideas what might be happening? If not does anyone have an HK UK technical helpline number.
    Thanks
    CP

is there not an option to turn the sub fully on, with my sub i have off/auto/on, i dont like the auto mode as some times the sub switches off when the audio is quiet. In the 255 thread the uk harmon kardon support number is there. Also can you try another sub and also make sure all the wires are plugged in.

    Hi Chic,
Yes there is a switch on the back which is Auto/On i've tried putting it to On but the Sub remains in Standby(Orange light) mode. In the manual it says this should turn Blue regardless of whether a signal is being received by the Sub.

another thing to try is goto the avr settings menue on the 255, go to the speaker set up, goto manual and make sure the sub is set to on. Also try the ezyset again.

Even I'm facing the same issue. The sub-woofer just simply doesn't stay in on mode (blue light) for more than a few minutes after its switched on. It keeps going to standby mode (orange light) with no output. Please post the solution here in case any of you get it. I'm going to call the Customer Support this week and try my luck.

I switched to using a different power outlet and a different extension cord. Also, I now switch on the woofer only when required and shut it off at night and when not required. That seemed to have taken care of the issue for now.

:lease: Help! I am now having the same problem. Bought my HKTS11 1 month ago, awesome system but now same thing as you guys. Working normally until bedtime last night when I switched off my receiver, woke up today put receiver on and nothing but an amber standby light? swapped out sub cable, adjusted and checked ALL settings...receiver and sub, all good there but still nothing. I like many other people do not have a spare sub sitting around for testing purposes:rolleyes: so what to do? is it the receiver or is it the sub. Suggestions would be most welcome. Hoping the solution is a home fix, if not then I will make contact with supplier and go that route.

:smashin:thanks for that. I do not believe it is my receiver either. I look forward to hearing what the techies tell you, although I really hoped not to have to send this item back, what a major pain that will be.

:)Contacted specialist HIFI store up in Whakatane where I bought my sub, they were very apologetic and are gonna courier new one out to me this week and courier will collect and take back faulty one to store.

Guess it pays to go through specialist stores sometimes! good after sales sevice is a Godsend when you have problems like this, cant begin to imagine what the story would be if I had bought this from an electronics superstore.

I have not received new one yet:rolleyes:but I am confident this store will be true to their word and get it sorted ASAP.

Harman kardan are shipping me out a complete new system, should be arriving in the morning by courier:D. I was just wondering if any of you guys have some elec tech experience. I ask because I am using an older Sony STR-DE845 (US Model) which is 110V, and running off a step up transformer....could this be a contributing factor to the sub problem. Sony is gone next month anyway, getting a new Pioneer, but would be interested in your opinions.

I have the same problem with the HKTS 11 Sub just getting the orange light all the time. Last night I noticed it wasn't on, tried swapping cables and no joy, it's powered through my Amp (STR-DE698) although it did come back to life last night after a while. But today just on standby all the time.

Turned settings on Amp to ON, set Sub to be always on still getting same orange light issue as you guys.

Getting a buddy to come round with a Sub and a spare AV reciever hoping it's the power from the AV Reciever as I'm planning to upgrade that anyway soonish.

Also going to try to power it externally as mentioned above, just need to find the right type of adapter.

Keep my posted as mine seems to be suffering from the same problem.

Weird how you say it works when powered externally, I'm just going to hope mine does as well.

Will update when I know more.

    Cheers.

Just been looking on other forums and found this post on here
Plugging Subwoofer into my receiver (power)....? [Archive] - DVD Talk Forum

It seems the power at the back of most AV Recievers are not designed to power Subs as the Subs draw too much power. I suspect this could be our issue the Sub was working with mine for a while but I guess I've cooked the powered output from the Reciever, you should always check that the reciever has sufficient power to drive the sub, specs should be available on both Sub and Reciever documentation.

I'm going to try and dig out this information today and also will buy and adapater so I can plug the Sub straight into the mains. Will keep you posted on how I get on.

Called HK Tech support. He told me it sounds like a problem with the Sensor and that the onlly solution is to send it back.

:suicide: I am well over this whole stinkin' HKTS 11b saga!! as you will see from my previous threads I had a dodgy sub too, got a complete replacement set. Well now just 3 weeks later guess what....yep that's right it's gone again. I am super p***ed!! also I have just splashed out lotsa cash for 2 pairs of the HK tall boy stands.

I have written to HK customer service and can only hope they offer a speedy solution like the first time, although I am not sure now if I want yet another replacement, shoulda gone with one of those boring but safe HTIB sets, cheap but reliable, arrrgggh! what to do:confused:

steve c were you powering from the amp again? I suspect this may be a contributing factor as i think the sub may not like being powered off just as it's trying to go into standby which is what happens. Bit of a poor design. Also though as per my earlier post you shouldn't power sub from your reciever as they are designed for powering less hungry items like cd players so it may be annoying the sub. This is what i'm hoping i'm still waiting for mine to come back have been told a month. That'll teach me for buying from pixmania who are based in france! Fingers crossed for you mate it is a great system when it works. You may be able to get the shop to give you another sub. Sorry for lack of paragraphs sent this from my phone

Hi, thanks for the advice, I am not sure though that you meant it for me. I have never powered either of my 2 failed subs from the rear of my receiver, only direct from a mains supply. I just received a call from the HK rep yesterday who explained to me that they are currently experiencing a number of difficulties with the HKTS11 sub, and that it is the sensor or something that is causing the problem. I have been assured that I am getting another sub and that this one is going to have the modification done to correct the problem. Well here's hoping:)

Apologies I thought you were powering via the Receiver. That's my theory out the window then.

Good to hear HK have recognized it's a fault, I'm hoping I'll get a fixed one sent back.

    Fingers crossed.

...Aaaw! That is such a bummer! I was considering this speaker system and the sub was the MOST appealing thing about it. If the problem is fixed by HK maybe i will get it anyway... If not i will have to keep looking :(

Hope it works out for the rest of you. I know how frustrating this **** is!

well my fears have been realised! My new sub has stopped working in exactly the same way as the first within a day of getting it!!!

I have written to HK asking them to advise as if I send back to who I bought it from they'll just send me a new on again which will likely fail again.

Aaaargh, such a shame it looks and sounds beautiful when it works. But when it doesn't it's soo frustrating!

Unlucky for you man! I think you are pretty tolerant because i would have returned it now..

    I got the system anyway. I got a demo in a store with HKTS11 + Onkyo 607 and i was sold :D

I figure that this is one of the most popular system out there and that the odds are low that this problem should happen to more than just a few unlucky souls.

Are you using the regular sub-in with the rca cable? maybe there is something wrong with that and that it might somehow overload the input and thus damaging certain components etc? Im guessing here...

    Anyway good luck

Yep using my regular sub out which I have tested with a friends sub and it's working fine. Which is more than can be said for the sub which displayed the same problem even when not plugged in.

My old one before dying would still turn on when you set this switch to "always on" The new one does this seemingly when it feels like it.

Don't know if it's just a bad batch with the company I bought it from but I've left with them to decide what to do.

I have asked for Sub to either be serviced and returned or to have a refund if this isn't possible.

I then have to go through all the hassle of sourcing a new system. The HKTS ticked all the boxes for me in terms of looks and sound, might go with the KEFs even though I don't like the wall bracked for the front speakers as much, sound is of course top priority to me, but she who must be obeyed wants something sympathetic to the decor as well.

Q Acoustics are too big and Matt black
Kef Eggs right colour but sit too proud and angle down

Leaving me with the HKTS which was just right apart from it doesn't work at the moment.

Waiting to hear back to see what the solution is, also re contacting HK does anyone know how to get in touch with the UK branch as I would like to speak to them direct about the problem but my requests to the service centre via the website have fallen on deaf ears thus far.
