A little something that came in my email which someone out there might find interesting: HITACHI LAUNCH MULTI-LINGUAL DVD WRITER In an attempt to help ease consumer confusion in the crowded and complicated world of writable DVD standards, Hitachi has announced plans to release a multi-format DVD writer. The GMA-4020B drive will be capable of writing DVDs in the DVD-RAM, DVD-R and DVD-RW formats, as well as the usual CD-R and CD-RW standards. The only format Hitachi's new drive will not support will be Hewlett Packard and Sony's new DVD+RW format. With support for all these standards, Hitachi say that the drive will be able to record DVDs ready for use in conventional home DVD players and DVD-ROM drives. Neither a price or release date has been confirmed for the drive, but industry analysts say a good price point would be around the $500 mark (approximately 350 GBP).
