New member question,

I can get hold of the Hitachi UT37MX70 for £400 from local electrical store and switcher for £13. I will be connecting up
Virgin V+ box and upscaling Pioneer Dvd player. I mostly watch sport and films, what's the screen like at handling motion? I was going to wait until July and spend about £700 on a 37" lcd. I'm thinking of buying it this Friday so any advice would be appreciated......

Imho you can get a much better tv for the money. Look around this set has been over hyped quite a bit on these forums....

Hi,
I mostly watch sport and films, what's the screen like at handling motion?

Well I have only seen it with DVDs are it seems alright, I haven't seen too much of the so-called 'judder'. It has 100hz with a 24p feature called Movie FRC which I think is mainly aimed at the Blu Ray disc format. The 37 inch is the one I am looking at getting but I haven't seen it that cheap, it is more like £500 in Richer Sounds with the Warranty, maybe you could check that price again? Bear in mind also the lack of connections such as SCART or anything other than HDMI/DVI. A few other people have bought the 42 and one the 32 so check the threads for those on the 'What LCD should I buy?' bit.

I will tell you more when I get one (I have now decided to do so!) Would be interested to hear how you find this set though as people only seem to have posted about the 42 inch, which uses a slightly different panel (H/S-IPS?)

Cheers, Simon

Hi Guys

Thanks for the replies so far! The connection issue doesn't really bother me as i'm only connecting two devices through HDMI switcher. The picture is the most important issue for me and for £400 for a 37" Full Hd / 100hz tv is very tempting.... The store that are selling them are doing the 32" for £350 and the 37" for £400. I will post a review on it if i buy it??

Thanks Chris

Yeah, having a look for yourself is the best idea. IMO the 100hz is the most important feature - the 32 lacks this and is only 720p but both are same panel (IPS Alpha). You get the same picture processing on all of them I think, there is more info on that on the Trusted Reviews website. There is a review of the 42 and 32 on Techradar as well.

Also, I know you mentioned that you have an all HDMI setup but I just thought I would mention this because it is important issue ie. you cannot easily switch between analogue and HDMI without either an individual switcher (fairly expensive) or an even more expensive option like an HDMI equipped DVD-R or AV Amp - that is one of the reasons for the price.

Will try and arrange a demo from different sources! I was looking at buying a HDMI switcher 2 into 1 for between £10 and £20. Then i thought it was just a matter of switching between sources either automatically or manually. So £420 for the lot and then a matter of setting up properly......

got one of these( 42" model) on bank holiday monday from rs.........first impressions in shop was that it looked well made and stylish for a tv....the picture was as good and in most cases better than all the tvs around it ,costing roughly the same .
was worried my wife would hate the tv for being too big for our living room proved groundless...she liked its shape.
switched it on for the fist time via the sony 2400e amp with freesat on bbc hd was jaw dropping...really clear and fresh looking picture ...then played a bluray on the ps3.....again the picture was a joy/then played call of duty 4....this really showed off the game well(the 42" panel really showed what it could do and the game was smooth and enjoyable to watch)...next my homebuilt htpc was set up and i was soon displaying windows in 1080p..this was a vast improvement on my samsung le32r41bd lcd...i didnt need to resize my picture at all and everything was crisp and clear

yes there were tv in rs with a slightly better picture and more connections...but i didnt have the extra £250 to buy them

Hi Basser, just one thing I wondered -

yes there were tv in rs with a slightly better picture and more connections...but i didnt have the extra £250 to buy them

Which TVs did you think had a better picture? Also, in terms of colours, clarity/noise issues, did it compare well with the Samsung? Just interested for my own references.

Cheers,
Simon

it was a samsung series 6 i think???? but it cost £799 and was just a bit better screen wise in the shop also the lg (forgot model) but that cost £699 and was only slightly better(the screen had a more 3d quality to my eyes)....compared to my samsng 32" which i thought had a great picture.....this beats it in nearly every respect...i have found no picture faults at all with this tv and have yet to adjust it
iread all the reviews and posts on here about it and went to rs to see if it was as good/bad as it was made out to be...im just glad that i have bought one....suits me cos i dont have to use freeview cos i have freesat as well

Hi, managed to get a demo set up through a freeview sony dvd recorder! BBC was terrible but Sky Sports News looked pretty good..... wasn't sure if it was just the signal the shop was getting or if it was the panel?? Still pondering as to what to do!!!!
May wait until i can get a sony KDL-37w5500 for £700...

Thanks

Chris
