Just a few quick questions, But im using my PJTX100 via HCPC and setting res to PJ's native 1280x720@60hz and FFDSHOW via Zoom player pro to 1440x960@60hz

1.)Would I be better off setting FDSHOW to same native res as my PJ I.E 1280x720?

2.)Also should I bother to use power strip to set dvd playback for 50hz or does it not make a diff between 50Hz or 60Hz in terms of pic quality when watching a dvd?

    Thanks :smoke:

The intuitive thing to do is to scale to the native size of the display .. as long as that's also your desktop size .. as that eliminates the on-board scaler in the graphics card and the display (more or less).

OTOH, I've found that scaling to 1920x1080 with a desktop of 1280x720 (into a 1280x720) projector gives me slightly better results, the image seems less 'edgy' (hard to describe really). This is called ocer-sampling and the theory (and practice as I observe it) is to un-do some of the softening caused by the up-scaling.

Certainly 1440x960 is another option for NTSC, being 2x source res., obviously PAL should be 1440x1152. It's this issue of alternating between 2 settings that makes me prefer to scale to output size or multiple thereof.

As for 50hz/60hz, this isn't a PQ issue. The problem this is dealing with is 'judder', seen most clearly on long wide camera pans (such as Peter Jackson loves) when playing PAL at 60hz .. the choice of refresh rate is determined by the frame-rate of the source material, PAL is 50hz and NTSC is 60hz, well, 59.94 to be precise but don't ask me why :).

    Thank's Kragorn

1.)So when watching Pal movies have Hz@50 and NTSC movies at 60Hz yes?

2.)1920x1080 for both Pal&NTSC material, and or 1440x960 for NTSC and 1440x1152 for PAL?

Sadly I cant seem to use FFDSHOW at any res above 1440x960 though without having a juddery sort of slight pausing effect when watching DVD's :(
I use Lanczos at 2 paramater with the WinDvd4 codec and the sonic audio codecs I have a decent PC with barton 2600+ and 512mb of Corsair DDR,
So I dont know why it causes this problem with playback?
