I live in Hong Kong and have just bought the above (no tuner), and is great.
I have a question though as I am a compltete novice!!
The screen emits a very quiet buzzing (my wife doesn't notice it) -is this normal for plasma?
You can not hear it over the TV but when it is quiet you can.
Any help would be appreciated - or am i just being picky!!!

btw you can get it here for $29k (about £2100)

    Chris,

I'm in HK for a while perhaps, just curious where you got the 42inch I presume, for $29k? Is it the grey import shops or on the av shops on the streets and is it with official warranty? As Fortress chain is selling the 5000TA for $41800

I got it from The Chinese Club - the one in Central (Chui Lung St). They also do the 5000TA for $35,800. It came with the full 2 year Hitachi warranty - not as good as John Lewis but not bad. and they supplied the wall bracket and table top stand
Hitachi also came to fit it to the wall.
i dealt with Mr Wong and he was very useful
Basically Fortress are much like Dixons in the UK!!!

    Hi Chris,

I recently got the PMA500E which is virtually the same as your screen, and when I first turned it on I heard a buzzing/tizzing noise, but as soon as the volume is above about 4 or 5 no body here can hear it, and now two weeks later even with the volume muted I have to listen very close and very hard to even hear it now, and I mean very close, maybe a foot away from the top of the screen.

    Best regards David

BTW over here now the 500E I have seen for £2400

    Hi David,

I'm in the market for a 500E, as it seems like a good choice from what I've read in the forums. Where did you see it for £2400?

    Thanks in advance,

    Richard

    Thanks Chris for the information.

I'm not staying in HK that long, so I am not intending to buy any big electronics, have a HC in UK already. But I love looking at boys toys.

    Richard,

    Look at this

    http://www.tvandvideodirect.com/

I even rang them friday evening to check, and they reckon it comes with the AV module as well, no stand of course or speakers as it is the monitor not the TV version.

And yes I am well pleased with it.

    Best regards David

There are a few chains which are good , Broadway and Ching Yuen (or something like that). Try going to Times Square in Causeway bay on the 8/9 the floor there are reputable electronics shops.
IF you're brave head to Mongkok - you might get a great deal there - try in the building above the bodyshop (20 floors of elctrical stuff). Otherwise normal chain stores on the street outside. In Tsim Sha Tsui there are loads of camera shops - don't know how good but aimed at tourists so large chance of getting ripped off.
