I just got a freeview box and can't get a signal. on the av1 channel a "no signal" message appears. On the RBG channel there appears to a be a picture of the start up menu but it distorted and I think it needs to be tuned. The Tv is quite old and it won't let me tune these channels the way I fine tune the others. any ideas?

You don't need to tune AV channels in - they are direct inputs. Sounds like you haven't got the box outputs set to suit the TV. Not all older TV's support RGB. I'm not familiar with the Hitachi box, so can't help you more.
