Hitachi AX-M68D: CD Player Won't Work!

The CD player in my Hitachi AX-M68D has suddenly stopped working. The deck lights up and the lid raises but you have to close it manually. It will not, however, read or play the CD.

Any ideas for a repair or will I need to buy a new system?
