Hitachi 42PMA500E + buzzing noise

Hi there,

I've recently taken delivery of a 42PMA500E. I've just noticed that the (possible two?) power supplies left and right hand side emit a noticable buzzing noise. Whilst from a techical point of view this seems logical I can't help feeling that in the 1st few days the screen was silent. Can anyone confirm whether they can hear the noise on their units when listening to quiet passages or sound off?

Hi Supermonkey, I heard a buzzing when very first turned on but again only faint, I had to be very close to hear it with the sound off, I shall go and listen to it again right now.......hang on....yes, its still there.......but very faint, probably have to be within 6 feet and in a silent room.
It sounds about right I guess for the PSU's.

At closer inspection the buzzing is across the whole back of the screen .... if it was crt I'd recommend to discharge
not sure whether I should wind myself up over this but the screen is 9-10 feet away ..... perhaps I'm just anal

Hi, Johns Wifey here

I too am paranoid! Have had 3 plasmas since last July!To
cut a long story short, 1st one pw5 37 had been damaged by comet at install!
2nd PW6 went back after a day, really loud buzzing as you have.
3rd PW6 went back 2 weeks ago because of dents in top of frame, but had a great picture and quiet as a mouse!
4th PW6 coming next week, with a JL price match this time, so just keeping everything crossed...hehehe...

Supermonkey, Anal retention factor I think is higher than the buzzing factor! LOL
I think you have to be very lucky to get a totally silent screen with the currents whizzing around the back of Plasmas, and then there is no garantee buzzing will not appear at a later date.
I must admit that when I first got the screen I noticed the buzzing when first turned on, but as soon as programme material was being shown there is no way we can hear any buzzing, even my 14 year old 37" Mitsubishi CRT buzzed a little, but never thought anythin of it!
Of course you could have bought a model with cooling fans, then you would not have heard the PSUs buzzing and been annoyed by the fans instead? <BG>
