Have been told that the 5200 is to be deleted (if not already) and the above model will come in around March time ? Anybody else heard this or is it old news ? Oh and got any specs if you have. :smoke:

Well, if it is true, nobody has told Hitachi, because the model is still on their web site

What's the source of your information ?

The new 7000 series is on the Hitachi Japan website here, so it looks like there is a replacement coming.

The Hitachi Australia website is also showing new 7800 models here.

Looking at the pictures the new media box appears to be a hard drive recorder, and play dvds!! I bet it'll be expensive.

That looks like an addition to the range, and appears to have a DVD recorder and 400GB HDD recorder built-in. Since Japan uses NTSC, it could be quite a while before a PAL version appears, if ever.

    P.S. ..... and, I just noticed, the 7000 is a Liquid Crystal Display ?

Looks like the 7000 range includes both plasmas and LCD monitors. You can see them further down the japanese page. Two LCD Panels (27 and 32 inch), and five plasma panels.

Still the same res and contrast ratio. The 5200 is better looking too.

    Whats the improvement exactly?

Looks like the major selling point is that the stand is powered, so you can turn the screen from your armchair.

    Found on the Aus site:
    http://www.hitachi.com.au/hitachi/content/template_products.asp?ID=1667

I've highlighted what looks to be different from the PD5200 series (the key items anyway). The 1,024 greyscale should make a <positive> noticeable difference I would think. As for the HDMi input I'd rather wait & see if it'll still be present on the European model, though there's a good chance it will...

Also, just had a look at the specs PDF file linked there, though they mention Aus HDTV compat. "up to 1080i/50" the specs says still NO 720p/50... :(

Guess 720p50 is "inherently" impossible on an ALiS screen... Btw I was hoping to see these new series to all be "e-ALiS" based but no, only the 55" are...
<e-ALiS is for "enhanced ALiS" and displays pictures *progressively*, vs ALiS which do that in an interlaced fashion>

    Hi,

Sorry it has took so long to get back, i have been away. I heard initially this was going to happen from a Hitachi dealer when i called to order a 5200, i then rang Hitachi who initially said they knew nothing..... then rang back there technical helpline, told the guy (to remain nameless), the model number and when it was due out (ish), and he confirmed it but said he could not give me any details of the spec but would E mail me when it was public. I only mentioned it to see if anybody else had any information, i am new to all this Plasma ''stuff'' so wanted to make sure that if i were to buy a 5200 that something better would not come out 2 weeks later !!!

I'm the ozzie and can confirm that the 7800 doesn't dispense beer. Further to this it does support 720p/60 (not 50 unfortunately) on 5 inputs (Component AV1, AV2 & RGB2, HDMI & DVI).

However, I have a basic problem - I can't get the headphone output to work; has anyone who owns one got any ideas

It's out in the UK either this month or next (can't remember).
It's going to cost £2500 analogue or £2700 with a digital tuner.

How much do you think I could get for my 42PD5200 (1 year old) mint condition?

Have ordered the new model (7200) already. Checked with Hitachi, and it definitely does 720p50, so will definitely display what sky initially send out in High Definition. Taking a risk as i have only seen pictures of the tv, not in the flesh !!

I'd love one, but can't really afford to change my 42PD5200 at the moment!

Has the UK model got the motorised stand?
