I am looking to buy a high definition plasma tv. I have been reading this forum for a while to help me decide which plasma is best for me.

I have read lots of psoitive reviews on Hitachi 42PD7200. Lot guys in this forum also found LG 42PX5D a good plasma.

I have seen both tvs in action on High definition feeds and both looks very good. How do these set perform on standard Sky TV.

Which TV do you recommend out of the two and why.

Your advise will be highly appreciated.

The Hitachi all the way!!! (IMO)

Be carefull where you buy though as I was in Currys Newbury today and it was £1999!!

My set 3 weeks ago was £1699 ar Richer Sounds and I know you can find a bit cheaper if you look.

can only comment on the hitachi and i cant fault it PQ is excellent

Are you refering to PQ of Sky or HD feed. I did see a DVD running at richer sound and PQ looked a bit pixelised. May be its because i was too close.

I seen the price of £1480 at empire direct. I tried to get a price match from Richer sound, Holborn. But they insisted i must take a 3 year warranty to get the price match. So a total of £1628 with 3 years warranty.

I did not get it as i did not want a warranty, just wanted a price match of £1480. Do you think i can get a price match from a different branch.

Does anyone have any experience of Empire direct. Are they any good ?

I have bought a few items from empire now and have been more than pleased with there service. I'll give you a more definitive verdict though as soon as they deliver my new PD7200 hopefully by next week!!

I compared the LGPX4R (5D without freeview) and the 7200 in Richer, both running HD feeds. Some of the movement on the 7200 looked a bit jerky and that coupled with the some reports of solarisation problems pushed me towards the LG. Having said that, lot of people on here like the 7200 and at that price it looks to be a very good deal. FWIW, I ordered the LG from John Lewis, price matching against Empire @ 1600 quid. Getting JL to price match the 7200 would result in a really sweet deal.

Guess what? I've got a 5D, and I am very fussy. I've gone through three plasma screens in my lifetime, and my first plasma was the Hitachi and it sucked in my experience. Picture was fantastic, but not after screen burn killed it within six months. My 4R was stollen, and then decided to upgrade to the 5D my paying a little over the insurance pay-out. The extra resolution of the 5D just makes the screen a great all rounder, and I would say it is comparable to the Hitachi's and Pani's of this world.

Don't take my word for it, have a look at one yourself. The freeview and DVD images are superb.

By the way, don't buy from Comet or any other retailer who sells the 5D on the cheap, because they will service the screens themselves instead of LG direct (basically LG sell the screens without a warranty/guarantee). In my experience this means the responsiveness and eagerness to help resolve issues may not be that high from the stores' own technical organisations.

Happy shopping...

I went for the LG 42PX5D because 1. I like the overall look, 2. Built in Freeview and finally 3. Because I could price match with John Lewis and get the 5 year warrenty. Also, I don't think that JL stock the 42PD7200.

Hi

At the end of the day its your choice and your money dont go on what we recommend choose yourself both are great Plasmas.

Decide which is best to suit your needs on your viewing preferences and demo both sets first:smashin:

You wont be dissapointed with either , other things like mounting also play a part, is it going to be wall monted or stand etc

ie Wall mounted LG has inbuilt digital tuner ie 1 less box

On a Stand Hitachi has motorised swivel

Go on demo them you know it makes sense

with my hitachi i use sky+ thru rgb scart, tosh 350 via component and my xbox 360 set to 1080i via component.

i have never seen any type of pixelation, no poor PQ from any of the inputs infact friends of mine that have a hd pioneer cant believe how sharp the picture is. i have never seen any ghosting , solarisation or image retention and with the menus and sitting in the lobby in xbox360 live games if it was going to do it thats gonna cause it.
i dont use expensive connection cables just general scart leads and £10 component cables.

if you have seen it demo'd and it looks naff maybe you should print off the picture settings from the other thread on here put them in it and check there connections b4 you decide.if you have a laptop you can plug into it so you kno the quality then that would b even better for you

hope this helps
