    Thanks John
Have browsed through thread looks like no matter how good the magazines rate the plasmas (within reason) owners of all makes have the same old problems.

Most of all, unless it has the 'H' suffix it is not HD ready. And yes, all plasmas have one problem or another, occasionally lots of different ones! There is no 'reason' about magazine review ratings. At my son's speech day yesterday, we had Sir Trevor Macdonald pointing out the low trust ratings of journalists. He made a joke of it. I do wonder with the reviews sometimes whether they've actually plugged the thing in. Not specifically the Hitachi 5000 series, you have to take it all with a pinch of salt. Media box plasmas do consistently better in reviews than panel only types, could this be a connection issue? Any professional will tell you the media boxes are nothing but a hindrance.

True but you still got to feed it with a tv signal be it through ntl, sky or free view and the best out put they give is rgb through scart.

Something the reviewers could do with knowing, I suspect. After all, scart is only RGB if you tell it to be. And just because a screen has RGB capable scarts does not mean to say this is the best way to feed it a signal. It's more or less a concensus opinion that component video looks way better on 5000 series. There are a couple of freeview boxes that put this out from their scarts, only requiring the right lead to make a considerable difference to the picture. Otherwise you are stuck with an expensive converter. Quite a few have gone this route.
