    As title.

    42PD3000 from Empire or

42PMA500E from Nexnix - I take it the description here is incorrect as the video board is optional but the way nexnix describe it its allready installed ?????

    http://www.shootandshow.com/hitachi-42pma500e.htm

    Thanks

I you don't need to the tuner, and I'd suggest you probably don't. If you can live without the speakers, better off with a proper 5.1 system, then get the new 500E. Not sure about connections, with the 400E the video board was optional but everyone sold it with it.

From the looks of it, both nexnix and ivojo are quoting it with the optional video board included (described as an optional extra in the Hitachi factsheet)

Also says its fanless, which may have been an issue on the 400.

Anyone know if this is a new panel, or still based on the PD3000?

I know they are the same price, and I'm thinking you get 'more' with the PD3000, but I'm almost of the mind that the tuner box is a bad point for me (My AV cabinet is already bulging), so the plain panel might be enough.

i'm actually trying to decide between the pma500e or the new-ish Sony pfm 42v1. both are more of a comparison:
    no speakers,
    no tuner,
    hi res screen (1024x1024)
dvi inputs (important for pc and hdtv (yes i'm dreaming :) )

have you looked at the sony? the thing about the sony is that it doesn't really appear in A/V forums very much, and is classified more as a computer product. I've seen it being sold on dabs, simply and such. hopefully this suggests that it is more prone to the commodity-like pricing that effects all PC hardware...

Sony use Hitachi / Fujitsu technology, ALiS, however they tend to be behind the times using older designs of ALiS. The 500E has the latest and I suppose best ALiS screen, I'd go for that over the Sony if I was choosing.

    Thanks

I'm now leaning towards the 42PMA500E as it has the new H3 screen.

Where is the cheapest place to get it from ?

Nexnix will do a free dead pixel check and delivery is only £10 +vat and next day which is pretty damn good.

    Cheers

This may be a complete waste of time.

I had a brand new 42PD3000 delivered by John Lewis yesterday (as a replacement for another with a dead pixel). I turned it on myself and spent a few minutes checking the screen for dead pixels. I couldn't see any.

Over the course of the next three hours the plasma developed six dead pixels! I don't know how long Nexnix put the screen on their testbench for to check for dead pixels, but it's unlikely to be long enough to catch these early-dying pixels.

    Hi Kraken,

you appear to be in the same boat as me, but I have only one dying on me on my repalcement tv in the space of 2 weeks. I've got a feeling that as the PD3000 is being phased out in the next couple of months, the batches left of these plasmas that are being exported are not 100% perfect. Don't rate my chances of getting another replacement which hasn't the same problem. Might just get my money pack and wait for the PD5000, but doubt whether I'll get at such a good price as this one was.

I just bought a 500E from Nexnix along with a Pioneer VSX-AX10iS amp. They price matched the amp with empire-direct at £2062 and gave me 50 quid off a wall bracket for the plasma.
Everything arrived as promised without any problems. Not had chance to put it up yet so cannot comment on the screen quality, but just looking in the box makes me drool. I'll let you know once it is up and running.

BTW the video board that comes with it is a seprate module that plugs in the back to give you all the AV socketry you could you ever need.

    Cheers

Be very interested to know what you think of the screen when you get it set up as I am seriously considering this plasma.

Am also thinking of the 42pd3000 at the Empire Direct price though. Anyone know what the difference is with the new screen over the last model?

All I've heard so far is higher contrast...

    1100 instead of 1000.

Hopefully they'll be other nice changes.

Can you confirm if there is a DVI connection as well Pioneer? and if so if it is labelled as hdmi compatible...

Cheers in advance, wondering which one to get out of this and discounted pd3000.

Wife and child to consider though, are there any discreet (flat as poss) speakers that could also be put on the wall to provide sound?

I have the FS2's already for my home cinema requirements and something of that ilk would be great if it included bass without a sub.

With this, the new panasonic and fuji, I think I'm back at square one until I can see them.

Not higher contrast but higher brightness, contrast stays the same as 1000:1 brightness increased to 1100

can you by any chance post a picture to compare the size? My kit is quite wide, so there isn't a lot of room for anything.

Plus I'm now looking strongly at the philips 30" LCD, as my wife seems ok with the idea of £2k, but balks at anything more..we'll see :)

Anyone here ordred from Empire ?

    How long was/is delivery.

How easy is it to get them to take it back if it has dead pixels?

£99 delivery seems a bit steep to say the least, I note you can collect, where from?

    Cheers

I wonder if J Lewis Newcastle will do the same!!!
DOnn't know whether to get one now of wait for the new Hit to come out for 2 reasons:
    1. The new model may be better option
    2. When new model comes out may get the 42PD3000 cheaper!!

Nexnix have just whacked another £100 on the 42PMA500E since yesterday

    Rules that out now.

This is too much of a headache and have now decided to get another 32" CRT which makes me a right idiot for selling me 32zd26p last week :clown:

Will look at Plasma again in another 12 months.

    Cheers
