    MR2Harvey,
While were on the topic, what connections did the 400e from Richersounds, come with as standard?

Ive heard this tv needs extra connection boards, but cant be sure how the TV actually comes from RS.

    Stephan,
I looked on the promotions list for Currys and it shows the Hitachi 42" for £2599 not including delivery and it's not in stock.
Where did you see it for £2400?

    johndevine,
for that price, it really only comes down to Hitachi or the Panasonic 6. There are many users of both, and almost all of them seem very happy.

Have to agree with Simonwim's comments above - I can totally recommend the black Panny 6 and Nexnix.

I have not seen the Hitachi picture, but the Panny 6 is virtually perfect when viewed from 10 ft+ away - any less than that and you may be able to see the moving green/grey dots which seem to be a feature of most of the current plasmas.

I use a non-progressive DVD connected via component and Freeview via RGB SCART - even Freeview looks good, and that is with a less than perfect signal.

    Interesting

What is the model number of the Panny 6 and average cost price?

I dont know if it was the particular panny in RS but i was aware of flicker over the whole screen, is anyone seeing this also?

Are the blacks black on the panny? and is grey scale still 256?

Too many questions i know but i want to buy.

    Thanks

Flicker is meant to be improved on the 6 series Panny, however it is still there for those who are sensitive to such things. Blacks are very black on the Panny and grey scale is set at 10 bit 1024. It would be perfect if the flicker was totally eliminated and it had a higher res screen. Life's a compromise I guess.

Hmmm, its not easy is it

What would be your personal preference between the Hitachi and the panny6 on PQ only (watching mainly sky+ and component DVD) and can i see one in Bristol anywhere?

Well I chose the Hitachi and am very happy with it. Many here swear by the Panny, it certainly has great blacks and has had very good reviews. For me though I did not want a low res screen, 480 lines is fine for NTSC but too few for the 576 lines needed for PAL. Many people say you can not see the effect of the 100 or so missing lines but that swayed it for me. If you can see the flicker on the Panny then look elsewhere, if not then it would be a great screen no doubt. You will ultimately have to see them for yourself and decide, I doubt you will be disappointed with either of them!

12 mths interest free credit and immediate delivery.
But I am going to see if Currys do interest free at the discounted price, but I'm not holding my breath.

    JSW,
Didn't I read on a previous thread that you were no longer getting the plasma and were going to stick with a CRT until next year. What happened?? (I may have you mixed up with someone else)

Currys do 12 months interest free, the only difference to empire direct is that with currys you have to pay 10% minimum deposit, 12 monthly payments, and then the balance, still all interest free of course.

You can do it online, when going through the 'checkout' choose payment by finance, and I think the option is the 'optout 13' or something.

I have also recently bought the Hitachi PMA400E.
While the picture quality via component input from my Sony DVD produces excellent results, I am not as happy with the quality of the picture from my SKY+ box via SVHS. Basically the picture is a bit grainy and colours are washy (excuse terminology im new the the world of plasma TV's). I appreciate that the picture will not be as clear as composite input from a DVD but its quite a lot worse. I tried connecting my DVD using SVHS and again the picture was great.
I have also tried connecting the SKY box up via RGB SCART to a SCART-Component Y-U-C converter which then connects to the plasma but the screen quality is no different to that of the SVHS connection. Today im going to buy a SCART - 6 Phone RGB cable and try that. Has anyone else experienced similar?

Hitachi recommend connecting the Sky box via the RGB scart out to the Component in and composite for sync, and connect the DVD via the Component out to the HD RGB in on the 400E, the required leads can be bought from Lektropaks.

    Best regards David

This is my quote from a previous thread..........

"to connect the PMA400E to RGB from SKY etc, you need the Lektropaks lead no.SSSCRGBS/3M the will go from the scart output of your Sky box to the component RGB inputs and the composite video in for the sync signal, to connect the DVD player get the Lektropacks lead no.SS15D3P/3M this connects to the component outputs of the DVD player to one of the 15HD inputs on the Plasma, this is exactly as recomended to me by Hitachi only this week"

    Best regards David

Thanks for your advice David :)

I have ordered 1 x SSSCRGBS/3M for the SKY+ box and 2 x SS15D3P/3M (one for the DVD player and one for my XBOX which has a dongle with component out).
