    Hi all,

Please can I have some advice on which of these two TV's to go for?

I'm after the one that will give the best overall performance with HD/XBox 360 etc.

Or maybe suggest an alternative 32" or bigger for around £1200?

    Many many thanks!

    rythmix,

I too am thinking of buying a new TV, but I am not very conversant as to their particular merits, to say the least.

The reason I respond is because I know that the two sets which you mention are the subject of very long threads which I have read in this forum and that the Hitachi 32LD7200 has been criticized because of its buzzing and the Samsung LE32R41B bacause of its backlight (No manual control) black levels, screen tearing (New firmware available to rectify) some dead pixels and green push.

To familiarise yourself you will probably have to do a lot of reading of the various long threads, unless one of the many experts calls in here.

I think people are holding back somewhat cause like most things it is a case of personal opinion.
The Samsung is probably the one to go for in terms of price and current popularity,I haven't seen the Hitachi but the general opinion seems to be it is a good set but it is probably more expensive than the Samsung.
Again I can't comment on the Hitachi but there have been various issues with the Samsung,I returned the one I got beacuse it had a faulty back light and ended up with an LG instead.

You can buy the Samsung LCD for £800 from play 247 while the Panasonic 500 is another you might want to consider. I have seen the Panasonic 500 for around £1300-1500 on the net.

I got my Hitachi this Tuesday gone, picture quality is fantastic. Hooked up to XP MCE and running HD clips looks absolutely amazing, So far mine has not buzzed at all!

I'm watching Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade on SKY connected over RGB scart and i must admit it looks awesome!

I have no doubt xbox 360 is gonna look tremendous on it!

    FAB!

Thanks for all this REALLY useful info, (what a great site!)

Another quick question, I have some HD TV Shows on my laptop which has S Video and VGA out, which would be the best one to connect it to a TV?

Would the result be true High Definition on the TV? What cables would I need?

    Many thanks

VGA would be the best, though the closer you can get the vga card to give you a 1:1 mapping to the display the better. I have a nvidia card outputting 1360x768 into the Hitachi (which is 1366x768) and it looks absolutely stunning especially when you put some top quality HD stuff through it.

I am using the VGA port so a regular 15pin VGA cable is what I use, If you want to use the DVI port then you will have to do some playing around to get it to work at 1360x768 as on paper the DVI on the Hitachi only supports 1024x768. I am very happy using the VGA and to be perfectly honest cant see how DVI would make it any better!

I have ordered the Hitachi, I really liked the look of the Sammy, PQ is supposed to be as good as the Hitachi, but I heard about problems with Xbox and tearing which TBH put me off a little. Got the Hitachi at a bargain price so don't mind paying the extra £250 and that rotating stand is gonna be so cool when the missus goes to bed and I can switch over to Xbox 360 gaming without getting out of my chair!!!

However, the Hitachi has recently been downgraded a * in What Hi-fi as newer models impress more apparently (though that was with a review price of £1500). The new Panasonics are supposed to be much better, as is the Lowe, but with the extra costs involved.

    Haha! :)

My plan is SO similiar, thanks for all the fab info so far...

Where did you order the Hitachi from?

I think I might go to Currys just for the convenience of being able to get my hands on it straight away and not having to wait for a delivery!

Saying that... Would it fit in my car?!

A Mini cooper, (with seats down)

Currys online with the magic code. You can order it online with FREE delivery and if there are any problems you can take it back to the nearest store - it is £1499 in the store - £1251 online with another £100 off if you enter the following code at checkout - 100off1000_candg

You'll be disapointed then - Currys don't keep stock of the Tvs at their retail outlets for security reasons - Therefore, youll pay for it and theyll arrange a date for it to be delivered to you.

    Great thanks,

So, I think I'm either gonna go for either:

    Panasonic TX-32LXD500
    Panasonic TX-32LXD52
    Hitachi 32LD7200

Any preference? Do any commercial stores hold these in stock?

    Thanks!!!
