One of my colleagues is upgrading and has offered to sell me his Hitachi projector which is only a few months old and a set of Boston Micro speakers which are a couple of years old.

He is asking £1800 for both the projector and the speakers. I have seen them working and they seem to be very good to me but I am new to all this and would be grateful if you could let me know your opinions on whether that is the right amount of money to pay or if I could do better.

    Thank you

    Mark

    Mark,
Sorry but I dont rate either of these products.
My advise is for you to do some research on this site and spend your money more wisely.

    Best Wishes
    Eric

There are a few sayings that spring to mind, if you can knock him down to about £1500 then maybe.

I seem to remember someone having problems with this projector - sorry, can't remember who, but you could do a search on this forum.

You might want to check out the Panasonic that everyone is raving about.

    Cheers,
    Liam

    Mike,
Apart from the Pany, take a look at the Kef eggs. It seems these are doing well at the budget end of the market.
As you can tell, I dont like the Micro's.

Do the Boston speakers come with a sub? Some used to come with a REL sub that is well regarded, but others used a Boston sub, which was not as well regarded.

Speakers are a very subjective matter - the most important thing is that you like the sound. However, on saying that, you might not have any reference to judge them against. It would be a good idea to listen to some modern speaker packages (like the Kef 2005) at a dealers rather than just leaping at what initially might seem like a bargain to you, but might not be the best way to spend the money.

    Cheers,
    Liam

If you feel they are worth the money then go ahead, but personally I would be looking at other products like the Panasonic PJ and the Kef Eggs or maybe a Def Tech speaker package.

Thanks for all of your advice which I guess is summed up as "keep looking".
