    HI,

Im new to this home cinema game so appoligies if this isa basic question.

Just recieved the Panny TX32PD50C and love it. However there is a hissing noise coming from the right hand side (as you look at it), the loudness seems to vary, but when watching quiet scenes in movies it really is noticeable.

I called the place I got it from and was told this is normal for a Tv of this size, its just the transformer and that the loudness will vary depending on what sort of picture im watching.

Can anyone confirm that this is correct.

    Thanks

    Andy :)

Hello Andy and welcome to the Forum. :)

    In a word: "Rubbish!"

I'm afraid they're trying to pull the wool over your eyes.

What you are hearing is a discharge from the EHT.

It's 25,000 volts, which possibly explains why they're not keen on touching it.

Get a technician in, or better still, get it replaced.

    Good luck!

    Thanks for a quick reply.

    What is EHT?

Extra High Tension(High Voltage!) This could also be the scan coils and/or some other component rersonating. I would doubt it to be EHT as this is usually a loud "pop" but anything is possible. Any noise is subjective IMO and diagnosing opver the Internet is very hard.........

EHT flashover is indeed a loud "pop", in fact a VERY loud "pop"!

But Andy described it as a "hissing" noise, which sounds more like EHT tracking or discharge to me.

Resonating in the line timebase shows as a high pitched whistle of 15,625Hz.

It used to give me a headache although 405 lines was even worse!

Isn't it amazing how far back the memory extends for some things...

I noticed a hissing when I bought my 32PD50C. I also have a Panny digital landline phone which was close to the TV. I moved the phone and it reduced the hissing significantly though not completely. Dont notice it anymore though.
