Hisense U8QF TV Review & Comments

Vincent Teoh pretty much agreeing with the review. Great hardware, let down by poor software implementation.

Motion seems to be in the eye of the beholder. Vincent rates it as sub-par even for casual users and same goes for video processing. Phil scores both as decent, but he does acknowledge some motion issues using Ultra Smooth engine. Interestingly Vincent did not experience the backlight switching off issue. Other than that most of their findings are pretty much in line.

I'd really like those issues he mentions fixed by Black Friday ;) Specs look great for what I'd like in a TV, but motion issues make my head hurt.

Can these issues be fixed with a software update do you reckon? I thought he was a bit harsh with his words but he wasn't totally wrong about motion specifically. That 120Hz bit was a real kick in the teeth though. Was the main reason I bought it even though I know 120Hz@4K isn't possible without HDMI 2.1. Would still have been nice to play games 1440p or even 1080p@120Hz.

Vincent has never been anything but harsh with Hisense - he absolutely destroyed the first TV Hisense sent him which I believe still did rather well for Hisense in the UK. You got to factor in cost to reviews and that seems to be something that he doesn't do well - he gets the chance to pull something apart and he takes it.

Personally motion and judder issues, don't really bother me so they wouldn't be deal-breakers and I suspect many of the people looking to buy this wouldn't even know what faults they were meant to be seeing.

I find black levels and panel uniformity to be far more important, some might add decent audio to that - yet these are all positives which he pretty much glosses over.

They might (to some degree), but it's impossible to say really. Regarding Vincent you have to keep in mind that he [Vincent] is an enthousiast, more critical than your average joe, mostly reviews higher-end tv's and thus compares it to their performance. Based on the reviews and forum feedback so far I would say that motion should be sufficient for most. If it's a priority and you're planning to use interpolation or BFI (often) it would be wise to pick a Sony or Samsung instead.

Just got an Nvidia Shield Pro but I can't seem to play YouTube in HDR. Has anyone here with this TV and a Shield managed to get YT HDR to work?

For what reason 4K120?

And some people seem to completely gloss over all the issues Hisense have, just explain it away as, it's not an OLED, and recommend the cheap rubbish every chance they get, as they are obviously have some sort of vested interest.

There is NO Youtube HDR support on the Nvidia Shield!
What? Really? At work so can't try it now and I was too busy when I got it yesterday, but can I just install the YouTube mobile app and get HDR that way do you think?

So does 120hz not work at all on this TV? (I know it won't for gaming, I'm referring to TV watching)

Haha, given both Hisense reviews have received a RECOMMENDED badge on this very site, it doesn't seem to back up your "cheap rubbish" argument too well.

Unfortunately not really. It accepts the 120Hz signal but doesn't do anything with it but skip frames. 120Hz is effectively broken.

There is NO YouTube HDR on the Shield no matter what you do. It does not support vp9.2.

For the first time I hear that the terrestrial or cable programs that the TVs accept are broadcast at 100.50 or you want a hertz in tv set. Can you show me this somewhere written by an expert and not from videos on the net?Or writers on forums

At what minute and second of the video is the TV set on TV from its tuner and you find out what it accepts and what it misses? A bunch of foreign posts in any forum are nonsense. How did this person in Germany not understand this, and here in some forum everyone They know a lot. Even in the review I don't see exact values of the contrast in different scenes, and everyone knows how much hertz it transmits, etc.
Nonsense, in general...

Оnly in England does everyone know everything.Мaybe someone pays for this knowledge?

120Hz is broken. Either accept what I'm telling you or buy the TV and see for yourself. I have no reason to lie and I doubt Vincent is lying. It's broken.

I bought the TV before Vincent saw it (!)and I don't watch videos. I read rtings and for the first time I hear that the TVs broadcast a signal at 100Hz.
I do not accept a serious person to do any reviews with video, like any net specialist. If Vincent knows so much to see the site that I said 100 times and I do not want to advertise him again and start doing serious things.

In addition to this, I have about 10 other TVs, including lg oled, and I haven't seen any TVs write how many hertz TV signals it receives.
If you want to explain with a photo where exactly to see this?

I'm not really sure what you don't understand @gaoo the review states the TV skips frames when forced a 120hz input.

It's not surprisingly really, the native refresh rate of the TV doesn't have to correspond with the panel refresh rate and its only in recent years TVs have started to accept a 120hz signal.

This behavior was exactly the same as when Sony TVs started accepting a 120hz signal, they did so, but skipped frames. It's a common thing, and its not a problem because the TVs are not enabled for a 120hz input officially anyway.

Can you explain what point you are trying to make? If you mean you want to see an image showing the TV accepts a 120hz signal then this is largely irrelevant, the TV could show or not show this and still skip frames. It's up to you whether you believe the video or not, the guy is a pretty well known TV calibrator with years in the industry. If you don't believe him, that's fine.

I said it simply, but obviously the moderators here want to say something in defense of the English reviews that are different from everyone else in the world. Why is that we can only guess. I know very well how famous the man is!
I asked you to give me e.g. from Rtings explanation of how many hertz TV broadcasts any TV receives !!!
I am a person who just watches TV and reads here and there, I may be wrong. Therefore, please explain clearly and if possible with photos of any TV where I can see this, and not explain to me who is who.
Nothing more.

And one more question. If this is not a problem and you knew it, why didn't you get involved earlier to explain, and now you are turning to me?
Very strange behavior.

I know no one likes criticism.
However, to say that there is or is not a 100hz TV, FALD,QLED/ w a JBL soundbar is worse than an ice 50hz beater, and no matter the price, it is just an disregard to its owner.
And to be clear, I do not want to change the assessment, as one defender said. On the contrary, let him stand and let everyone see how it is assessed here

A review is subjective. If you don't want to believe a review that is up to you, but you can't dispute facts.
Broadcast frame rate has nothing to do with 120hz input, which is what this discussion is about.

If you mean the comment he made in the video on stuttering during broadcast TV, well that is motion and highly subjective. Just because he notice stutter does not mean you will. I also believe a firmware update has already addressed this issue.

I'm not sure if things have been lost in translation, or what point you are trying to make here. There's no defenders or opposers, there's no fight. It's just discussion about a TV.
