Hey @Steve Withers would you by any chance be reviewing the NU9700 FALD set that was a few months ago? Really looking forward to a review of that. Thanks!

We'll be reviewing the NU8700 and NU9700 just as soon as we can.

Appreciate the non commitment as I know its difficult to set timelines, but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,within the next couple of months??
Looking for a second tv for a new lounge, 55" and HiSense certainly hits the price point but might be more interested in the newer 8700/9700

      Thanks

well I should be getting the NU8700 next week and then the NU9700 a few weeks after that but I can't be any more precise than that I'm afraid.

Generally speaking, is there a better 2017 55" TV than this for £800 or less?

That's hard for me to answer because unfortunately I haven't seen any other budget TVs so far this year but I'd be very surprised if you can find better at the price point.

Bought one of these yesterday and I agree the out of box settings are not great Steve so like the others we need your advice asap please on settings etc.
For the price its a great set, just feel it needs a bit of tweaking.

I got one of these yesterday from Costco (cheapest I could find, also includes 5 year warranty). Set up as per Steve's settings, and looks pretty good. My only issue is with the sound. I run a Sony blu-ray 5.1 set up, and have connected it as per my old TV. However, whenever I change the volume on the Sony, it also brings up a volume bar on the TV. For every 1 step I increase the Sony's volume, the TV's volume increases 3 steps. I have the speakers set to 'off' in the TV settings. Any ideas?

I have a Sky Q box on HDMI1, an Xbox One S on HDMI2, and the Sony on HDMI3. Not sure if this is the optimal set up, I was just conscious that both the Sky Q and Xbox are feeding 4K, whilst the Sony is only 1080p, so gave the 4K sources the more powerful HDMI inputs.

Are they all set to ARC in the sound menu, I had same issue and I think that’s how I solved it.

Sorry I meant just the speaker setting set to ARC, I can’t remember how I got rid of the volume bar as I had other connection issues with my amp not being 2.2 compliant so have checked my settings and it’s set to that in the menu.

Yeah the speaker setting is ARC.

What issues did you have with your amp? I'm wondering whether your issues might be similar to an issue I've also experienced this evening. I've started another thread in the TV main forum, but essentially plugging my ARC-enabled home cinema system into HDMI2 (the ARC-enabled HDMI port on this TV) results in a bright pink screen.

Sound like you may have a dodgy HDMI cable, my issue was my amp which is 4yrs old and isn’t 2.2 compliant which is the spec for skyq uhd.

I unplugged everything and sat in the middle of the room scratching my head, eventually I worked it out and it all worked, the upside was the onscreen volume bar disappeared but I can’t tell you at which point it went.

      My set up is:-

Skyq to tv ARC HDMI in, and optical lead out of sky box to amp. Then separated in amp settings so the sound still comes out the amp and not the tv. That might be why the bar isn’t on the tv.

It's not the cable, I tried another with the same result. Good idea though!

Gonna try setting up in the same way as you and see what result I get

Figured out the volume bar issue, if you use the tv one to change the amp volume it also shows on the tv but if you use in my case the skyq or amp one it doesn’t show on the tv and only on the amp.

      Hi!

      @kosymodo,

What size did you get may I ask? Do you know what the 50" & 55" sizes were priced at in Costco?

      Thanks!

That’s weird coz it’s definitely not the same for me. Whether I use the TV remote or the Sky Q remote, both volume bars appear.

However, I’m pretty much giving up on this issue for now, as I’ve been getting so much lip sync delays using my home cinema! Therefore have disconnected the home cinema for now, until such a point as I either have the time/patience to revisit this, or I buy a new AV receiver and set things up properly.

I have to say though that the TV speakers are way louder than I’d anticipated! The missus is telling me to turn the volume down even on 10 lol!

55” and it was £550+VAT, so effectively £660

Didn’t see any 50” there...not sure Costco are selling these

Had this tv a week now and after a few misgivings about the picture it seems to have settled down now and have to say I am impressed. Netflix is particularly good.
Followed Steve's calibration setup and seems good apart from HDR day which he hasn't included.

So for £609 to me its a lot of tv for the money.

Advice on HDR please, when watching Netflix and HDR in particular it is only reading 5-6kb sec and 1080. This is by pushing the i button on remote.
My Fibre is decent at 35meg so shouldn’t the HDR be at least 2160 ?

Think a lot of HDR content on Netflix is HD 1080. I know the the new Star Trek series is 1080 HDR. Well that’s what my Samsung TV is displaying it at.
