    I lied. :hiya:

    To simplify,

    Amp/receiver required.

    Budget around £250,
    Music > home cinema,

I like the look of the Marantz and Denon amps - any good? Is £200 for the SR4400 at richer still good value? The Denon 1905 also caught my eye, although I hear Marantz are better for music (my primary use). Truth is, I'm not sure and I'd be willing to look at your other recommendations.

I have 'acquired' some Eltax Symphony 8.2's, any amps that work particurly well with them?

I will leave it to you guys, I really know nothing!

    Thanks, in advance.

Maratnz SR4400 is a weak link in the Marantz series...

Try to get a 5400 (good and good prices with the new 5500) on the new 4500...

The Denon 1905 is fine machine or the Cambridge 640R if the features are fine for you...

    Just MHO

The Denon's are good for music or how about the Sony STR-DB795?

If you're after a music only amp than the Marantz 7200 is on sale at Richer Sounds. Won numerous awards and seems to be have lauded on this forums.

Thanks for the help guys, it's hard to really know about this stuff without personal experience. I heard a Marantz 5400 today and it really seems to be the ticket. I will keep looking at other ideas until I'm 100% on what I want.

and I see the Marantz 4400 is down to £150 on RS! It's tempting, although Falp has put me off somewhat - is it really not up to scratch?

Listen to it yourself, if possible against a contender. Then reach a conclusion which one is better and if it's worth paying a bit more for it (where applicable).

Make a short list first, than go listen.

Both Marantz 4500 and Denon 1905 are great.

    For a 4400, I would prefer a 5400 on sale.

Well, I got the 4400 after hearing some different systems and have been very impressed with it. I'm certainly no expert on these things but for my budget, it seems ideal.

Thanks for the help guys. :smashin:

Panny XR digital receiver. XR45 if u can find one, XR70 if u want DVD-A over HDMI ablity (fully digital with them old "DAC" thingys haha)

Thats if sound is a priority (others may have more features but will lack the resolution, dyamics and transient attack)

The clarity of the sound is what continues to impress me - no matter how loud I play it, the distort is minimal. I have a lot of tweaking to do in the coming months, which is half the fun I guess!

Just one quick thing, Interconnects - any recommendations?

Tweaking is definitly half the fun, and you'll be doing it for a long time yet. It's hard to ever find that perfect setting

How much you willing to spend?

Considering my budget is smallish to most of you, I'm just looking for a good value interconnect that would improve the listening experience. I'm told by everyone (including the Richer Sounds bods) that they are important.
