Highlander remake

The original's (great film the first one:lesson:) only a tad over 20 years old and a remake already:eek:

Has the world finally run out of new ideas:rolleyes:

The dumbing down continues.

This is how thick cinema goers are these days. Remakes used to take a lot longer to get made, but if there really is a market out there for a remake of Highlander then I am shocked.

What next? Remakes of Usual Suspects, Goodfellas, Predator ...........

NO! There can be only 1!

(Although Highlander 3 wasn't terrible!)

Yep I agree. Remakes of Robocop & Red Dawn, amongst others, are also in the pipeline. No doubt we'll see watered down versions of all these classic (well, some of them) films, with all the associated merchandising crap to milk them for all they're worth. Shame really, but it's all about the $$$.

No reason to remake, but as with the original poster, i'll keep an eye on it....

Question is, who would take on the roles?

Christopher Walken as Ramirez... Shia Leboof (sic whatever) as Connor McCloud... Gerard Butler as Kurgan...

I hope not.
The only remake I want to see is a proper Judge Dredd

second that Rambo, i want a decent JD film where he doesn't take his helmet off , at least not without a cunningly placed plant pot to cover the top of his head :)

On topic I can't see this ending with a decent film of any sort

Nic Cage as Ramirez... Ashton Kutcher as Connor McCloud... Keanu Reeves as Kurgan... oh and Ms Ricci as the Police Forensics/Sword Specialist just cause I think she's as cute as a button :)

I won't be watching it.

All these are supposed to being remade - Battle Royale, Starfighter, The Evil Dead, Friday the 13th, Hellraiser, Tron, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Escape from New York, Short Circuit, Near Dark.

Remaking Evil Dead, Friday the 13th & Nightmare on Elm Street?!! Noo!!

(Although apparently Robert Englund gave his approval for NOES)

But remaking Tron, Short Circuit & EFNY? :(:thumbsdow

IT really goes against the grain this.
Remaking movies that really are not that old..
Ive just watched the remake of 'The Andromida strain'.
It was a alright watch and the reworked story was okay i guess, but it was not a patch on the original movie.
The Underground facility in the original is so Real looking and Tactile.
And very technical too.
And this remake imo was just dumbed down a lot.

As for highlander, theres noway a remake will come close to the original, for one reason alone....The Soundtrack.
The legend of freddy and queen added so much to that film, that to remake it would be just ******poor.

Hollywood must be scraping about for scripts.:nono:

As much as I love the original, I'd welcome a decent re-telling of this story. The originals effects are dated, the editing is shonky and the sound quality grates. I'd prefer that it be given a 'Final Cut' approach rather than a do-over though.

This is going to be up there with the Point Break remake. Why, why, why.....

Wait...they're remaking The Last Starfighter???

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Never watched it. Will now to see what the remakes about.

As for Highlander, a good film and could be good remade.

Summit Entertainment has announced Justin Lin (Fast & Furious) will direct a re-imagination of Highlander.

Written by Iron Man screenwriters Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. Peter Davis, long time producer of Highlander, will also produce the film. Summit acquired the rights to remake the cult classic from Davis - Panzer Productions, Inc. in May of 2008.

Summit's film will expand on the original Highlander's core mythology of immortals battling amongst us, hunting each other through the ages by tapping its newly minted creative team to take its re-imagination to new heights. Plans call for the re-imagination to spur a new franchise for the studio.

Well, thats reassuring. For a moment there I thought it was just going to be a another ****-poor attempt to milk an ageing cash cow by a hastily assembled bunch of hacks.

Shia is a shi-ate actor and ruins every film he's ever been in.

I'm not totally opposed to a Highlander remake. Still enjoy the first one but would like to see one without camp SFX and with people who actually know how to use a sword.

The original is not very good, so remake it by all means.
