I've got this one, and the picture quality isn't any better on that than the R2. All releases of this film are plagued by grain in the transfer

    good price though :smashin:

Not really a tin box either, just a metal slipcase.

    Nice though

Another film that deserves a new transfer.

The 2nd disc - a Queen CD with 3 tracks - is nothing special either unless you're a serious Queen fan. That said, I like the packaging and if you haven't already got the film, it's a bargain at this price.

Bizarely Highlander 2 is being released at end of July as a R1 2 disc SE with a new transer. Go figure!

I had this version & as others have indicated the PQ is complete pants !
I thought it was snowing when it wasn't !

Imo I make it even worse than the R2 version & just about the worst quality picture I have personally seen on any DVD i've bought.

Waste of money even as cheap as it is imo.

I thought the picture quality wasn't that bad.

purchased an anchor bay highlader dvd about 4-5 years ago, it was even thx stamped, but the quality of it was sheit.

grain in the picture was awfull, and the case stated anamorphic but it was'nt.

    let's hope this is better.

not just a new transfer, they've redone the visual effects (a la Star Wars) to the longer directors cut "Renegade" version (about 30 mins longer than the UK version), given the audio a new DD5.1 and dts mix, and put together a massive amount of extras for it on the 2nd disc.
Mine's been in the post for a few days

the first release was infamous, they used an old laserdisc transfer, not even a very good one and ended up with an image riddled with just about every kind of artifact you could think of. The new disc is a big improvement, but unless someone does some serious clean-up work on the print they've mastered it from it'll always be below par.
I've seen a lot worse transfers, but then I've seen a lot better aswell

Sorry - am confused. When you say "original R1", do you mean the Anchor Bay release from 2002 (same as Immortal edition) or is there an earlier one?

I reckon the Anchor Bay Highlander and Blade Runner are on a par with each other - just about bearable but we know they could do so much better.

In any case, you've convinced me to check out the Highlander 2 SE!

there was an earlier non-anamorphic one that was horrendous. It was released by someone else, not Anchor Bay. It had the same commentary and was called the "anniversary" edition or something like that, I got rid of my copy a long time ago.

I think I'd agree with that. Too much visible grain for my liking

 2 loonies in one thread :suicide:
Can't see why they can't do something similar with the first movie, it deserves it.

Yes, my GF has already said I cannot make any more disparaging comments about her DVDs if I dare to get Highlander 2. However, I feel I ought to in the name of research, and the fact I've never seen the longer cut.

We'll prob have to wait for the 20th Anniversary "There can be only One" Edition with sean connery mobile and highlander doll. Sigh.
