High pitched whine from speakers when connected to amp, but not to receiver

Hi all,

Slightly odd problem.

I have an Anthem AV Receiver and an Anthem Amp.

My speakers are connected directly to the Amp and then I;m using Amazon Basic RCA cables to connect the Amp to the receiver.

When the speakers are connected directly to the receiver or amp there is absolutely no distortion, however when I connect the receiver to the amp, suddenly I get a high pitched whine from a couple of the speakers.

Can anyone suggest a reason why?

With thanks,

James

What outputs on the AVR are you using, and what inputs on the amp? What is the purpose of the connection? Which speakers are making a noise?
